General Function:

The executive director of Dispute Resolution Center (DRC) provides strategic leadership, overall administration, oversight, strategic planning, and financially sustainable development of the program. This role acts as the spokesperson for the service area to government agencies, community organizations, and the public. This role involves supervising direct reports, developing a strong presence and advocacy in the communities served, and building social collateral.

 

Principal Activities:

 

  • Development, implementation, and monitoring of short and long term goals and objectives for the program. Effectively communicate, track, and monitor them consistently.
  • Ensure that the daily operations of the program are conducted in accordance with all VOAWW policies and funder requirements. Implement tracking and monitoring to confirm continued compliance.
  • Provide higher level leadership and direction to staff, ensuring alignment with organization objectives. Communicate and monitor expectations of supervisors of people that they do the same.
  • Provide mentoring and professional development to direct reports to enhance staff skills and expertise, and ensure supervisors of staff in the program do the same.
  • Effective and proactive communication to ED’s direct supervisor, as well as with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ensure that all HR-related responsibilities and functions within the program are in accordance with all VOAWW applicable policies, and that there is close coordination and collaboration with HR.
  • Maintain and develop positive professional relationships with the external community including volunteers, clients, other service providers, funders, elected officials, and other stakeholders. Expect the same of program staff.
  • Ensure timely reporting to funding sources, government agencies, and internally to other VOAWW departments.
  • Serve as the main representative for Resolution WA, except when a delegate within the program is needed, and provide consistent and proactive communication as a leader of our member organization.
  • Develop and manage budgets for DRC programs, and consistently ensure financial sustainability and accountability.
  • Lead, participate in, evaluate, and recommend improvements to all program activities and those activities related to grants, other funding, and reporting.
  • Lead and collaborate with DRC Leadership Team as well as the larger VOAWW Leadership team to identify and adequately resolve programmatic challenges in a timely manner.

Qualifications


 

Education and Experience:

  • MA or BA in relevant field and 3-5 years of experience in Dispute Resolution and Mediation, or in lieu of degree, a combination of equivalent education and work experience. 
  • JD or another law degree (LLM or SJD) preferred.
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills with the ability to work professionally and collaboratively with all staff, volunteers, and the external community.
  • Proven ability to lead as a positive role model and servant leader, and to effectively direct and support staff. Create and maintain trusting relationships with internal staff in the program as well as within VOAWW as a whole.
  • Ability to consistently demonstrate the necessary knowledge and skills to deliver culturally competent services and work effectively in multi-cultural situations.
  • Demonstrated experience in budget planning.
  • Demonstrated excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Qualifications:

  • Takes the lead to resolves obstacles and conflict in a timely and lasting manner. This includes potential conflicts that the ED can identify ahead of time and prevent. Expects supervisors of staff in the program to do the same.
  • Consistently models professional and “servant leader” behaviors and values. Expects supervisors of staff in the program to do the same.
  • Is consistent and diligent about creating and fostering professional, respectful, and effective working relationships with direct reports, program staff, peers, and other staff at all levels within the organization.
  • Consistently adheres to VOAWW organizational policies and norms regarding appropriate communication and collaboration with other departments, including those in Administration such as Development, Marketing/Communications, Accounting, Infrastructure, and Human Resources, etc. 
  • Demonstrates a consistent focus on quality and looks for ways to improve processes and deliverables. Expects the same of the supervisors of staff in the program.
  • Consistently accepts responsibility for performance and follows through on commitments, as well as demonstrates the improvements that make stick.
  • Takes initiative and independent action (when appropriate), while communicating proactively and effectively with the relevant internal and external stakeholders, including primarily the ED’s direct supervisor.
  • Effectively utilize the organization’s HRIS to manage employee data, track performance metrics, and facilitate HR processes. Ensure accurate and up-to-date records of staff information, training and certification within the HRIS. Expects the same from all supervisors of staff in the program.
  • Consistently demonstrates commitment to the agency’s mission and objectives. Expects the same from all supervisors of staff in the program.
