Software Engineer II

Starting Salary: $66,377.70 annually, $1,276.49 weekly

Software Engineer II starting compensation may be negotiable based on education, knowledge, and experience.

General Description:

Responsible for performing technical work designing, programming, configuring, and customizing computer systems. Provides customer support in use of Enterprise Applications. Elicits and documents business processes and user requirements. Analyzes and summarizes complex data sets to support business processes.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, computer science, mathematics, or related field, AND
  • Two (2) years of experience in systems or database administration.
  • A comparable amount of education and experience may be substituted for the minimum requirements.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver's License.

Background Screening: This position will require an extensive background investigation.

Essential Functions:

  • Determines project resource requirements, including personnel, hardware and software.
  • Manages projects from initial concept through to successful production implementation.
  • Analyze cost statistics and prepare economic comparisons of alternative methods.
  • Designs and implements computer systems, ensuring compliance with established standards.
  • Creates specifications for coding, testing, and implementation tasks.
  • Reviews program code to ensure compliance with established standards.
  • Coordinates implementation of new or modified applications.
  • Identifies opportunities to modify or improve existing systems or workflows.
  • Acts as a liaison between users/agencies and vendors.
  • Reads, writes and maintains SQL scripts for Power BI and SSRS reports.
  • Assists with management presentations regarding applications.
  • Codes and tests computer systems according to specifications and standards.
  • Creates and maintains dynamic reports with Power BI or SSRS.
  • Creates and maintains web pages and SharePoint sites.
  • Creates and maintains technical documentation.
  • Performs quality assurance and quality control tasks.
  • Monitors computer systems to ensure performance meets expectations.
  • Performs program maintenance according to specifications to modify or improve performance.
  • Assists with the implementation of new systems.
  • Provides third level application support and problem resolution.
  • Performs research and data analysis; participates in special projects.
  • Proactively learns and develops new knowledge and skills.
  • Attends work on a regular and consistent basis.
  • Must adhere to Federal, State, County, and local ordinances.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Environmental Conditions:

  • General office setting with most duties being performed while sitting at a desk table or workstation.
  • Must be able to work under stressful conditions.
  • Must be able to relocate to other county locations based upon operational needs.
  • Must be able to remain available to work when a public emergency or disaster occurs.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Plan schedule and coordinate the work effort of developing applications.
  • Ability to change priorities quickly to meet business needs.
  • Ability to perform general mathematics.
  • Ability to interpret system statements, develop general and detailed application flow charts.
  • Ability to prepare block diagrams indicating hardware configuration.
  • Ability to recognize opportunities for system improvements.
  • Ability to create detailed documentation of workflows and procedures.
  • Ability to communicate both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to effectively function in stressful situations, to include CJIS and law enforcement support roles.
  • Ability to interact effectively with others.
  • Ability to write and read SQL statements for reporting and maintaining reports and systems.
  • Read and comprehend technical and professional writing, including journals, instructions, layouts, schematics, memos, letter, procedures and safety instructions.
  • Develop and support of applications.
  • Database software, Oracle and/or Microsoft SQL Server.
  • Develop and support Microsoft Azure low code/ no code solutions.
  • Design and documentation of applications.
  • Develop effective working relationships.
  • Analyze data, develop and produce reports.
  • Think logically and show attention to detail.
  • Clear and concise business communication with others.

Required Knowledge:

  • VSO General Orders and procedures.
  • Modern office practices, procedures, and equipment.
  • Business English, spelling, punctation, and arithmetic
  • Federal, State, County and local laws and ordinances.
  • Location of resources
