Job Summary:
The Purchasing Expeditor will work directly with the procurement team to consolidate material requirements and optimize the supply chain. This role involves collaborating with the Buyer/Purchasing department, communicating with vendors to prevent delays, and ensuring timely delivery of materials. The Purchasing Expeditor will pull ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) data, resolve packing slip/Purchase Order (PO) issues, and manage data in the ERP system. Additionally, the role focuses on net inventory reduction, improving inventory turns, cross-departmental collaboration, assisting other departments as required, ensuring that the business has the supplies and inventory it needs to function according to schedule, managing the flow of goods and supplies in the company, supporting strategic procurement needs and optimizing the supply chain. This entry-level position reports to the Supply Chain & Hardware Service Sr Manager and offers opportunities for growth and development within the company.
Job Description:
Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate closely with the Buyer/Purchasing department staff to ensure timely and accurate distribution of materials and address any purchasing issues that may arise.
  • Communicate daily with vendors to identify components that could cause potential delays, find alternatives/substitutes if required, and report findings to buyers and management.
  • Communicate with suppliers about the status of supplies and problem-solve solutions to reduce the impact of late shipments.
  • Place orders with vendors, verify supplies, and manage supply requisitions.
  • Procure off-the-shelf items, ensuring inventory is turned frequently.
  • Follow up with vendors and management on POs to ensure delivery and troubleshoot issues as they arise.
  • Monitor incoming orders and ensure timely deliveries.
  • Maintain frequent communication with the Purchasing Department and Management to discuss tracking of materials and potential delays.
  • Collaborate with management and purchasing to monitor inventory levels and assess supply vendors.
  • Assist the Business Analyst and direct manager in pulling data from the ERP system.
  • Work with the Warehouse, Quality, and Vendors to resolve packing slip/PO issues.
  • Update and manage data inside the ERP system daily.
  • Assist other departments inside the production operations group, such as auditing, non-conforming material tags, and customer returned goods.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
  • Ability to read and understand mechanical drawings preferred.
  • Proficiency in ERP systems, Microsoft Office Suite and related software(s).
  • Ability to communicate effectively using various methods such as calls, emails, Microsoft Teams, and in-person, with a variety of internal and external groups, including but not limited to Production, Engineering, Project/Product Management, and Sales.
  • Ability to independently problem-solve, prioritize assigned tasks, and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Education and Experience:
  • 1-3 years of direct supply chain experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of the North American Transit Industry, industry regulations, and relevant agencies is preferred.
Physical Requirements:
  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer/laptop.
  • Must be able to life up to 15 pounds at a time.
  • Ability to travel up to 5% of the time (including domestic and international), sometimes for extended periods, which may involve sitting during transit and walking at various locations.
  • Must be able to handle high utilization of hand and wrist dexterity.
