As a Product Test Engineer in this newly created position, you will be responsible for defining, performing, analyzing, interpreting, and documenting tests for all of Vortex Optics’ products. The Test &Evaluation Department’s purpose is to serve our customer, New Product Development, by providing the best information possible to determine a product’s performance.

What You’ll Be Doing
- Independently, with minimal supervision, execute standard test methods on products to understand products’ performance using your time management skills of staying organized and doing what it takes to meet a deadline.
- Collect data on product capabilities from tests performed.
- Use strong problem-solving skills with a positive attitude to analyze and interpret data collected during testing to explain what happened.
- Think critically to create, and peer review, test reports for proper documentation of testing and results.
- Work collaboratively with our internal customer to explain test results in a clear manner using your excellent communication skills; verbal, written, and presentation.
- Build strong Standard Operating Procedures and Work Instruction documentation.
- Apply engineering fundamentals to improve current test methods for efficiency or improved data.
- Collaborate with other T&E engineers and New Product Development engineers to develop new test methods based on product need and/or field failures, when necessary.
- Be a part of department growth by providing constructive feedback on equipment, test methods, and team building.
- Have a hunger to learn and develop personal strengthens and weaknesses, for the benefit of the team and company.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or relevant work experience.
- Proficient with MS Office Suite – Excel and PowerPoint critical.
Preferred Experience and Skills
- Internship or work experience with product testing as a part of or the focus of the assigned duties.
- SolidWorks or other CAD software beneficial but not required
- Experience using data analysis software
- Previous experience with electronics and wiring simple systems.
- Previous experience with optical measurement equipment.
Additional Requirements
- Must be willing to travel to vendors, partners, and factories to include both domestic and foreign travel. Estimated domestic travel averages 1-2 days per month. Estimated foreign travel averages 1 trip per year.
