Vossloh Fastening Systems America Corporation (VFSA) is part of the Vossloh group (Vossloh AG), a leading rail technology company. VFSA is known worldwide for its elastic tension clamps, having sold over 1 billion pieces globally. VFSA is the only producer of this product in North America and sells primarily to Canada, Mexico, and the US. VFSA is an essential supply partner to Class I, regional and industrial freight railroads, as well as transits throughout North America. VFSA has approximately 25 employees.

The responsibilities of our Plant Manager are critical for the overall success of VFSA. This role is responsible for managing employees at the VFSA plant and their performance to ensure orders are fulfilled according to our customers’ needs.

Position Overview:

The Plant Manager manages the day-to-day activities of VFSA operations. This role implements company policies, procedures, initiatives and key operations performance. The role of Plant Manager supports all functions in the manufacturing sector, including production planning, production control, and quality control. In addition, this role must monitor performance against operational goals and develop reporting and auditing processes to analyze operational effectiveness. This role reports to the Managing Director of VFSA. The Plant Manager function is also linked to the headquarters of the VFS business unit in Germany as part of a matrix organization.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensures a healthy and safe working environment, and compliance with federal and state regulations, through collaboration with environmental, health, and safety staff.
  • Assists Managing Director of VFSA with long-range operating goals, expansion efforts, capital investments, and implementation of new and advanced technology.
  • Identifies and shares training opportunities for staff to build and improve skills.
  • Organizes departmental management structure and teams for optimal, efficient operations, supervising all operational departments (production, maintenance, quality, purchasing, logistics and warehouse).
  • Liaise with VFSA’s Managing Director and VFS’ finance team to develop operating budget.
  • Delivers progress and production reports to executive team members as requested.
  • Supervises strategic purchasing, equipment purchase, maintenance, and layout.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
  • Lead projects aiming production increase, diversification of supplier base and sustainability.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors’ degree from four-year college or university, preferably in mechanical engineering, industrial engineering, operations management, manufacturing, or related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years related practical experience and/or training preferably in a heavy manufacturing, production, or metal / plastics products environment. Previous experience with railroad or automotive industry strongly preferred.
  • Requires strong leadership abilities to inspire and coach employees to accomplish strategic goals and tasks. Must have strong and efficient skills for delegating tasks, organizing and maintaining employee schedules and conducting evaluations and employee assessments.
  • General Plant Manager must analyze aspects of their companies' processes to identify potential challenges and create solutions should negative situations arise.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational and managerial skills.
  • Thorough understanding of the policies and practices used in the manufacturing division.
  • Ability to set long-term goals and communicate them to others.
  • Ability to motivate and organize multiple efforts to accomplish goals.
  • Comfortably work in international/intercultural environments, especially Western Europe.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software. Knowledge of SAP is strongly recommended.
