Environmental Health Safety Leader

SUMMARY: VSE Corporation seeks an Environmental Health & Safety Leader for our Alexandria, VA location.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• 
  

  Develops, implements, and manages loss-prevention and safety management programs.

  
  


• 
  

  Work with field staff in the development of safety procedures at each site to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and sound safety practices.

  
  


• 
  

  Ensures that all monitoring and reporting procedures are adhered to with follow-up, corrective actions regarding violations and accidents.

  
  


• 
  

  Inspect and evaluate workplace environments, equipment, and practices to ensure that safety standards and government regulations are being followed.

  
  

• 
  

  Recommends measures to help protect workers from potentially hazardous work conditions.

  
  


• 
  

  Investigates accidents to identify their causes and to determine how they might be prevented in the future.

  
  


• 
  

  Other duties as assigned.

  
  

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

• 
  

  Bachelor's degree in occupational Health, Industrial Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or similar technical field required or an additional 4 years of relevant work experience in lieu of degree.

  
  


• 
  

  8 years of experience in health and safety management in diverse work environments may suffice.

  
  


• 
  

  Comprehensive knowledge of industry practices and federal & state health, safety, and environmental regulations.

  
  


• 
  

  Comprehensive knowledge of health, safety, and environment requirements.

  
  


• 
  

  Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing, with experience creating Ad Hoc and summary reports.

  
  

• 
  

  Proven experience researching corporate safety incidents and creating concise reports.

  
  


• 
  

  Experience conducting gap analyses and developing corrective action plans.

  
  

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:

• 
  

  Aviation safety experience

  
  


• 
  

  Board of Certified Safety Professionals certification

  
  

• 
  

  Military contracting experience

  
  

OTHER:

• 
  

  Ability to travel up to 50% of the time including international locations.

  
  


•
