Job Summary:
Equipment Operator III operates heavy equipment on a construction site safely and effectively (Dozer, Excavator, Front End Loader, Motor Grader, Trenchers, Scrapers, Crawler Loaders, Roller, Asphalt Paver, Compactor, Articulated Hauler, Planer).
Overview of Primary Duties:
- Assists in radio communication.
- Performs preventive vehicle and equipment maintenance to ensure proper operating conditions before leaving for the job site (checks oil, water, fuel, tires, hydraulic system, etc., and makes appropriate adjustments) reporting any malfunctions and repair requirements to the supervisor.
- Performs traffic control set up at the job site to ensure a safe working environment, places and gathers cones, flags, set out traffic signs, etc.
- Skillfully operates and performs maintenance on a variety of equipment and power tools.
- Maintains log of required inspections of equipment.
- Finish grading for the correct grade (blue-top and GPS).
- Clean, maintain, and make basic repairs to equipment.
- Ensure equipment is safely and securely stored when not in use.
- Is required to undertake a mandatory daily Pre Start check.

- Attend prestart and Safety meetings and contribute.
- Other related duties as needed and assigned by Field Supervision.

Qualifications:
- Must be 25 years or older with a clean MVR background check.
- Valid CDL license requirement is dictated by the needs of the site.
- Four (4) years of heavy industrial-related heavy operator experience.
- Successful completion of a DOT Physical.
Requirements:
- Operate by way of radio communications or hand signals, if applicable.
- Knowledge of all traffic laws and regulations involved in equipment operation.
- Good verbal and listening.
- Responsible for maintaining safe operations as per Yates and manufacturers procedures/guidelines within the equipments capabilities.
- Wearing, inspecting, and caring for required personal protective equipment.
- Must be able to read and follow operator procedures.
- Ability to read and interpret instructions and document, plan, and perform work activities independently
- The degree of job responsibilities and requirements may vary depending on months of experience
- Successful completion of required Safety training to include, but not limited to, Confined Space, LOTO, and Working at Heights

- Required to adhere to large amounts of standing, walking, bending, squatting, climbing, and lifting
- Ability to talk and hear to communicate
- Will use arms and hands to signal, grab, hold, turn, push, and pull objects, materials, controls, and tools
- Must be able to lift, carry, and move heavy objects up to 25 lbs.
- Will use vision abilities to focus, see short and long distances, colors, depth perception, and peripheral vision
