What are the responsibilities and job description for the Manufacturing Engineering Intern position at W. R. Case & Sons Cutlery Co.?
The Engineering Intern will assist engineering team with all activities for a lean production philosophy, with focus on increased productivity and safety advantages, environment and implementation. This position will interact with all areas of the business which includes, but is not limited to engineering, maintenance, marketing/sales, production and quality control. This position will assist with day-to-day production support and improvements.
The Engineering Intern will assist in the following:
- Development and implementation of new processes and equipment for the manufacturing process.
- Design and/or improve fixturing for manufacturing.
- Provide engineering support for the process technicians, Tool & Die makers and Maintenance on special projects as needed.
- Develop and submit research packages for process and equipment improvements, submitting for Capital Plan.
- Work with other engineering team members to ensure capital projects are transferred to manufacturing in a timely fashion. This will include the writing of SOP’s, training documentation, specifications and coordinating training for both the technician group but manufacturing associates as well.
- Assist with training program for all manufacturing associates.
- Assist in New Design & existing product development, ensuring all time lines are met.
- Develop effective processes for current and new product designs, ensuring to issue required new specifications & SOP’s (Standard Operating Procedures) to manufacturing.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- Requires at least one year post-secondary school in related field, engineering preferred
- Knowledge of manufacturing principles, and root cause analysis
- Experience in CAD, AutoCAD or Inventor preferred, but not required
- Requires the ability to work independently and in a team environment
- Strong computer skills, Microsoft Word/Excel
- Knowledge of regulatory requirements for environmental compliance preferred, but not required
