Position Overview : As a Fabrication / Machine Shop Estimator, your primary responsibility is to prepare cost estimates and proposals for fabrication and machining projects. You will work closely with customers, project managers, and production teams to assess project requirements, analyze costs, and develop accurate estimates for materials, labor, and equipment. Your role involves interpreting engineering drawings, understanding manufacturing processes, and providing timely and competitive pricing to support business growth.
Key Responsibilities :
Project Evaluation and Analysis :
Review customer inquiries, requests for quotes (RFQs), and engineering drawings to understand project scope, specifications, and requirements.
Analyze project parameters, including materials, dimensions, tolerances, and production processes, to determine manufacturing feasibility and cost factors.
Collaborate with engineering, production, and procurement teams to evaluate project risks, constraints, and opportunities.
Cost Estimation and Pricing :
Prepare detailed cost estimates for fabrication and machining projects, including materials, labor, equipment, and overhead expenses.
Utilize cost estimation software, historical data, and industry benchmarks to develop accurate and competitive pricing strategies.
Consider factors such as production efficiency, machine utilization, and overhead allocation to optimize cost structures and maximize profitability.
Present cost estimates and pricing proposals to customers, addressing any questions or concerns and negotiating terms as needed.
Bid Preparation and Proposal Development :
Prepare comprehensive bid packages and proposal documents in response to customer RFQs and bid invitations.
Clearly outline project scope, deliverables, timelines, and pricing terms in bid proposals.
Coordinate with sales and marketing teams to develop tailored proposals and value-added solutions to meet customer needs and preferences.
Ensure bid documents are accurate, well-organized, and submitted in a timely manner to meet customer deadlines.
Customer Relationship Management :
Build and maintain positive relationships with customers, suppliers, and subcontractors through effective communication and responsiveness.
Address customer inquiries, concerns, and feedback in a professional and timely manner.
Collaborate with sales representatives to follow up on proposals, negotiate contracts, and secure new business opportunities.
Act as a trusted advisor to customers, providing technical expertise, problem-solving support, and value-added solutions.
Qualifications and Skills :
Bachelor's degree in engineering, business administration, or a related field (preferred) or equivalent experience.
Proven experience as a Fabrication / Machine Shop Estimator or similar role in a manufacturing environment.
Knowledge of fabrication processes, machining techniques, and materials, with an understanding of cost drivers and pricing factors.
Proficiency in reading and interpreting engineering drawings, blueprints, and specifications.
Strong analytical and mathematical skills, with the ability to perform detailed cost analysis and estimation.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact with customers, engineers, and production teams.
Attention to detail and accuracy, with a focus on producing high-quality cost estimates and proposals.
Proficiency in using estimation software, spreadsheets, and other tools for cost analysis and pricing.
Physical Requirements :
Ability to sit, stand, and use a computer for extended periods.
Occasional lifting and moving of materials or equipment, up to 25 pounds.
Visual acuity for reviewing technical drawings and documents.
Manual dexterity for typing and operating office equipment.
