Position Title: Summer ESL Teacher FLSA Status: Exempt
Responsible to: Superintendent of Schools/ Supervises: Classroom Teachers,
Building Principals/Curriculum Director Instructional Assistants
Evaluated by: Superintendent of Schools
Evaluation Period:
- Formative evaluations throughout the school year as per WCS Performance and Assessment Procedures.
- Annual summative evaluation prior to July 1.
Purpose of the Position:
- Direct provision of English language development in small groups to EL students (level 1.0’s and 2.0’s).
- Consistent and frequent collaboration with classroom teachers (teachers of service) to ensure instruction and assessment is appropriate for the student at their current level of English proficiency and plan English language development for the student.
- Analyze formative and summative assessment data to select and deliver targeted interventions and support.
- Assist classroom teachers with creating lesson plans that provide language support and provide ideas on how instructional assistants can support students in the classroom.
- Develop and oversee the implementation of Individual Learning Plans (ILPs) for bilingual students to receive accommodations.
- Work collaboratively with the Director of Curriculum & Instruction and EL Coach to ensure compliance of state and federal requirements.
Minimum Requirements: The following are the qualifications and minimum requirements necessary for a person to perform this job.
- Valid Indiana Teaching License
- Strong organizational and leadership skills
- Excellent communication skills both oral and written
Essential Functions of the Position: The following functions have been determined by Wa-Nee Community Schools to be essential to the successful performance of this position.
- Facilitate and implement the formal monitoring process for students who have exited EL services for two years after their reclassification.
- Administer WIDA placement tests and the annual ACCESS assessment.
- Timely communication with parents via the Annual Parent Notification letter, WIDA results, notification of exiting EL services, etc.
- Provide EL expertise to case conferences, MTSS meetings, referrals for Special Education evaluation, referrals for high ability programming, and other school-based processes pertaining to EL students.
- Work with the building level EL team to create a school-wide focus on goals for EL achievement.
- Assist in the development of long-range professional development plan for staff regarding WIDA standards and effective strategies for language acquisition.
- Collaborate with teachers to collect and analyze data and develop actionable plans in response to student needs.
- Participate fully in professional development opportunities and professional research and reading.
- Maintain paperwork consistently, appropriately and in a timely manner.
- Maintain the confidentiality of schools, teachers, and classrooms.
Secondary Functions of the Position: The following functions, while important and necessary to the position, have been determined by Wa-Nee Community Schools to be marginal to the successful performance of this position.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as needed or as directed by the Superintendent, Curriculum Director, or Building Principals.

- Must be able to lift items of 20 lbs. regularly/50 lbs. occasionally.
