About the role:
The Compliance and QA Manager provides leadership over the compliance program including retail, cultivation, manufacturing, and distribution, and ensures strict compliance with all relevant tribal, state and local regulations. The Compliance and QA Manager will also work on enhancing and maintaining standard operating procedures to align with these compliance guidelines. You will be responsible for assisting with quality-related activities at the facility associated with sampling and inspection of finished products, customer complaints, product investigations, and Corrective and Prevention Action (CAPA). This position will also help ensure products are being produced in a manner that meets all specifications and brand consistency. You will also assist in identifying potential quality risks and working with operations personnel to develop improvement opportunities.
Responsibilities:
Compliance
· Serves as the subject matter expert on regulations within our market and collaborates with the White Earth Cannabis Commission to understand their impact on the business.
· Work closely with various department heads, including retail, cultivation, manufacturing, and distribution teams, to enhance compliance processes. Identify areas where processes can be improved and make recommendations for modifications.
· Develop and continually improve standard operating procedures (SOPs) to align with the latest regulatory requirements. Ensure that all processes are well-documented and easy to follow, promoting transparency and consistency across the organization.
· Establish and maintain a centralized system for collecting, storing, and managing all compliance-related documentation. Ensure that records are easily accessible, organized, and well-preserved for the required duration, as per regulatory mandates.
· Real-time Compliance Support: Serve as a real-time resource for team members when they have questions or face compliance challenges. Provide guidance and support on regulatory matters, helping to address compliance issues promptly.
· Designing Training Programs: Develop and deliver compliance training programs for new hires and organize ongoing education sessions for existing employees. Ensure that all staff members understand the importance of compliance and are well-versed in current regulations.
· Ensures that compliance risk assessments are conducted to identify potential areas of non-compliance, including pre-inspection checklists, audits of system/seed to sale procedures, builds corrective action plans to address regulatory gaps or audit observations, including partnering with the appropriate parties to conduct investigations and updating SOP’s.
· Manages Operational Compliance Staff working in facilities within assigned market.
· Compliance Culture Building: Foster a culture of compliance awareness and understanding throughout the organization. Encourage employees to take responsibility for compliance and provide guidance on how to handle compliance-related issues.
Quality Assurance
· Performs finished product sampling and inspection.
· Performs equipment and product line clearances before production runs.
· Inspects retain samples and customer return samples, as deemed necessary.
· Writes customer complaints and product investigations, helping to assess risk, identify root cause, CAPA plans, and implementing solutions with business partners.
· Writes QMS documents, including routing and/or approval of change request packages, as requested.
· Inspects packaged orders to ensure correct content and quantities, as deemed necessary.
· Reviews in-process batch documentation to ensure real-time compliance to product specifications, good documentation practices and written policies/procedures.
· Reviews in-process batch documentation, logbooks, test results, and good documentation practices.
· Performs batch record reviews and audits as assigned.
· Executes action plans for product quarantine, destruction, rework, withdrawal/recall
· Conducts all duties in compliance with safety rules, applicable SOPs, and other applicable guidelines.
· May Require travel to other facilities to perform training and/or assist with quality issues.
Candidate requirements:
· 5 years of experience in a compliance or regulatory function or must have operated in a retail/production environment with a strong focus on compliance supporting a highly regulated industry such as cannabis, pharmaceuticals, alcohol or tobacco.
· 3 years of supervisory experience.
· Familiarity with industry specialized third-party seed-to-sale tracking systems (e.g. METRC, BioTrack, MJPlatform, LeafLogix etc)
· Prior experience with product sampling, inspection procedures, customer complaints, product investigations and CAPA
· Utilizes critical thinking to troubleshoot issues, work collaboratively with a team to brainstorm solutions and implement improvement solutions.
· Adapts and thrives in demanding, fast-paced environment.
· Experience developing strategic initiatives which align with business goals.
Certificates/Licenses:
· Must be twenty-one (21) years or older.
· Able to pass background check and drug screening.
· Able to maintain strict confidentiality.
· No felony drug convictions within the previous ten (10) years.
· Must fully meet the licensing requirements of the White Earth Medical Cannabis Control Board and be licensed to dispense medical and adult use cannabis according to the rules and regulations promulgated by the White Earth Medical Cannabis Control board, in accordance with the White Earth Medicinal and Adult Use Cannabis Code.
