PURPOSE OF POSITION:

This position is responsible for the planning, direction, management, implementation and oversight of Anchor Ingredients safety plans, programs and practices as it relates to plant operations at all of our company owned facilities.


RESPONSIBILITIES:


General Responsibilities

  • Ensure all safety policies, procedures, rules and regulations are adhered to and are regularly updated and communicated at all facilities
  • Manage WSI safety program, utilizing help of Safety and Quality Coordinator as needed
  • Conduct quarterly Site Safety audits at all facilities
  • Manage DOT and IFTA programs working with Fleet Manager
  • Respond to and lead through all OSHA Investigations
  • Review root cause analysis for near miss or injury events being produced by facility or program managers along with Safety and Quality Coordinator
  • Review and audit vendor lists servicing our facilities to ensure compliance
  • Continue to work with Facility Management and Maintenance team to ensure progression of Maintenance PM Program and development within ERP System
  • Continue to streamline safety forms and filings using iAuditor templates and platform


Safety Training

  • Monitor new hire safety training packets and keep information up to date and relevant with new laws and regulations
  • Create an annual training calendar/schedule for each location, working through coordinator to ensure completion
  • Follow-up with facility and program managers to ensure that all employees are completing required trainings for their role and doing so within the allotted time frame
  • Quarterly audit the LOTO program, trainings and roster at all facilities ensuring compliance
  • Direct, lead and document the monthly Corporate Safety trainings


Safety Management Program

  • Perform and document the annual review of all safety programs
  • Make any necessary changes to the program, updating documents as needed
  • Create LOTO procedures for new equipment installations with help of Maintenance Manager
  • Ensure necessary programs are all in place and within compliance
  • Confined space, bin entry hot works, air blowdowns, etc.
  • Ensure inspections are completed, accurate and on file at time of Quarterly review
  • Forklift, manlift, fire extinguishers, etc..
  • Certify fall prevention program and equipment is up to date at time of Quarterly review


Licenses & Permits

  • Ensure that all applicable licenses are kept current (i.e. – Feed Licenses, Grain Handlers Licenses, etc.)
  • File any necessary permit application
  • Submit tonnage reports as per each state’s requirements
  • Obtain additional licensing as identified
  • Ensure sites and adhering to all internal policies and procedures that have been implemented for compliance with said licenses & permits
  • Stay current with requirements of each license/permit and communicate updates/new requirements as they arise


Internal Facility Compliance

  • Monitor and observe at Anchor’s Production Facilities for the following –
  • Corrective actions that have been identified in response to audit findings (both internal & 3rd party) as well as those that have been determined through root cause investigations from QA Incidents are getting effectively implemented within each of the facilities
  • Monitor and ensure employees are adhering to all Safety and Food Safety policies, programs and procedures
  • Personnel are wearing attire in accordance with Safety and Food Safety Policies at time of Quarterly review



QUALIFICATIONS:

The ideal candidate will possess the following:

  • Associates degree in safety/risk management, industrial hygiene, occupational health, safety engineering or related field is preferred
  • 5 years of safety experience
  • Able to analyze and solve a variety of difficult situations and problems
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products including Outlook, Excel and Word
  • Ability to effectively communication with all levels of management, supervision and employees
  • Strong employee relations and interpersonal communication skills

This job operates within both a professional office environment as well as ingredient processing facilities. While performing the duties of this job within the processing facilities, the employee will be exposed to machinery and moving parts. The employee may be exposed to adverse weather conditions, high precarious places and confined spaces, & airborne particles including grain dust and hazardous materials or fumes, which may require the use of PPE. The noise level in some of the work environments may require the use of hearing protection. While performing the duties of this job inside the office, the employee is frequently exposed to normal working conditions for an office environment with a noise level that is usually quiet to moderate.


While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee may be required to stand for long periods of time as well as use hands or fingers to reach or handle, and to reach with hands and arms. The employee is regularly required to stand, walk, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee will occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds. All vision abilities are required to encompass close-up work. On occasion, employee must be able to tolerate and endure extended seasonal hours and maintain alertness to meet deadlines.
