Job Description
We are seeking an Electric Utility Engineer with expertise in the integration of distributed generation systems and policy development. The successful candidate will possess a strong understanding of electric distribution system operations, utility rate structures, and the operational challenges of integrating distributed energy resources into the grid. The role requires a professional who can balance autonomy and teamwork, with excellent communication skills for writing and reviewing policies related to distributed energy resource interconnections and operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide technical support and analysis for the integration of seamless distributed generation into electric distribution systems. Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations regarding distributed generation.
- Assess utility rate structures and their impact on the adoption and integration of both flexible loads and distributed generation. Develop and explain rate analysis, when appropriate.
- Apply technical knowledge of electric distribution system design and operation in the interconnection process.
- Understand the role and operations of RTOs and their effect on distributed energy resource policies and practices. Monitor RTO policies and ensure alignment with cooperative utility policies.
- Write, review, and update policies and technical guidelines for the interconnection of distributed energy resources into the electric grid.
- Provide technical guidance on distributed energy resources and flexible loads to internal teams, member cooperative staff, and external stakeholders.
- Contribute to the development of strategies for increasing the integration of distributed energy resources and flexible loads.
- Develop analysis tools, write reports, create presentations, and provide training on distributed energy resource policies and systems.
- Remain abreast of industry trends as well as best practices for distributed resource integration.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) or 5 years of experience in the electric utility industry, with a focus on distribution systems.
- Experience with distributed energy resource technologies and interconnection processes.
- Strong background in distributed energy resource integration, electric distribution system design, and utility rate structures.
- Understanding of how RTOs operate and influence regional grid management.
- Familiarity with AI and its potential utilization for enhancing resource integration into the grid.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively on complex projects.
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly.
- Experience with energy efficiency applications within both residential and commercial applications preferred.
