This role requires a leader with deep technical expertise and strong project management skills to deliver high-quality, innovative solutions for both public and private sector clients.

As a leader at Waggoner, you will mentor staff, oversee project execution, and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure successful project outcomes. You will serve as the technical authority on transportation and traffic-related projects, with a focus on improving safety, mobility, and efficiency in community transportation systems. The role will be located in either or Baton Rouge, LA or Jackson, MS office.

Are you ready to inspire, engage and deliver? For almost 50 years Waggoner has delivered sound results through a culture of integrity, service and creativity to benefit our clients. Waggoner has more than doubled in size over the last five years and growth is expected to significantly increase through the addition of talented personnel.

What does that mean for you? Your Primary Responsibilities will include

Leadership & Strategy:

  • Lead the Traffic Engineering discipline, providing technical oversight and guidance across multiple projects over multiple geographies.

  • Drive strategic initiatives to expand service offerings and support business development in the transportation/traffic sector.

  • Mentor junior engineers and technical staff, fostering professional growth and ensuring high-quality work across the team.

Technical Expertise & Project Delivery:

  • Serve as the Engineer of Record for transportation and traffic projects, ensuring compliance with engineering standards and regulations.

  • Conduct and oversee traffic engineering studies including traffic impact analyses, intersection safety audits, crash data analysis, and traffic flow/capacity modeling.

  • Develop and implement traffic signal designs, traffic management plans, and road safety audits.

  • Oversee preparation of construction documents, including detailed plans for traffic signals, signing, pavement markings, and traffic control systems.

Client Engagement & Collaboration:

  • Act as the technical point of contact for transportation and traffic projects, maintaining strong relationships with state transportation departments, local governments, and private sector clients.

  • Collaborate with client managers, project accountants, and marketing teams to prepare project proposals, fee estimates, scopes of work, and delivery schedules.

  • Represent the firm in client and consultant meetings, presenting technical solutions and project updates clearly and effectively.

Project & Team Management:

  • Manage a portfolio of projects, ensuring they are delivered on time, within scope, and on budget.

  • Oversee the work of multidisciplinary teams, coordinating with surveyors, CAD technicians, field engineers, and external consultants to complete projects efficiently.

  • Monitor project progress, conduct field reviews, and provide construction oversight to ensure that projects adhere to design specifications and safety standards.

What you'll need

  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or a related field.

  • Active Professional Engineer (PE) and Professional Traffic Operations Engineer (PTOE) license.

  • 10 years of experience in transportation/traffic engineering with demonstrated experience in project management.

  • Proficiency in MicroStation, OpenRoads Designer, and/or AutoCAD Civil 3D.

  • Experience with DOT projects, traffic signal design, roadway design, and conducting traffic operations studies.

  • Strong communication skills with the ability to present technical concepts to clients and team members clearly.
