Position Title: Migrant Student Advocate - 1 Position Available
The 2025 Wahluke Migrant Summer School Model is to provide in-person instruction to qualifying Kinder-4th grade students in reading, mathematics and STEM. Paraeducators would provide instructional and support tasks related to the students’ summer education.
Migrant Summer Program Information:
Class Schedule: June 23-July 24, 2025
Hours of Operation: 8:30 am - 2:15pm Monday-Thursday
- Opportunities to assist with home visits for additional hours.
The advocate will: The tasks, Requirements, Skills and Knowledge are not to be considered an exhaustive list.
- Work with the district’s Migrant Education Federal Programs director and school staff to identify and establish program and student goals in alignment with the district’s local plan and the State Service Delivery Plan.
- Provide supplemental support and services focused on meeting the unique needs of migrant students.
- Coordinate services with other resources migrant students may be eligible and entitled to receive.
Requirements:
- Experience in an educational or community advocacy-related field.
- Experience working with at-risk migrant students and families.
- Written and verbal communication skills in English and primary language of target population (e.g., Spanish).
- Knowledge of basic computer software programs (e.g., Google Suite, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Experience working semi-independently and in collaborative teams.
- Human relations, time management, and personal organizational skills.
- Flexible work schedule to meet the functions of the position.
Preferred Knowledge and Skills:
- Knowledge of economic, social, cultural, and psychological factors influencing migrant students.
- Experience working with elementary school aged migrant students in an educational setting.
- Knowledge of school and community resources available to migrant students and families.
Major Responsibilities:
- Identify the barriers including educational disruption, cultural and language barriers, social isolation, various health-related problems, or other factors that inhibit the ability of selected migrant students to meet state academic and achievement standards.
- Coordinate access to services available through the school district and/or community to reduce and/or eliminate identified barriers.
- Coordinate access to services available through school district and/or community that strengthen communication, self-advocacy, and leadership skills.
- Conduct home visits to strengthen home-school connection and student engagement.
- Participate in professional development opportunities to strengthen skills in working with at-risk migrant students including motivational techniques and reporting requirements.
