It is an exciting time to be a part of the Wake County Parks, Recreation and Open Space team as we open our brand-new Beech Bluff County Park! We're looking for a Park Technician with proven skills in park and equipment maintenance and operations. They’ll have an exciting opportunity to support the safety, stewardship and aesthetics of the park by maintaining our park grounds, facilities and natural resources.
Located on more than 300 acres in the southeast corner of Wake County, Beech Bluff County Park contains undeveloped forests, wetlands, stream channels, flood plains and rock outcrops, all of which support a diverse ecosystem and help protect critical natural resources.

Park staff provides a safe, enjoyable park experience through its programming, visitor services, daily operational tasks, facility maintenance and resource stewardship.
As a Park Technician of Operations & Maintenance you will:
- Provide positive, innovative, and visionary leadership
- Commit to culturally competent visitor engagement, and be able to adapt and be flexible in a dynamic environment to meet the needs of all visitors
- Assist in daily operations and maintenance of our facilities including grounds, trails, equipment, buildings, picnic areas and playgrounds
- Support the program and agricultural teams in providing educational & agricultural programming, community gardens and special events
- Provide excellent customer service while ensuring our park facilities are welcoming, open, clean, and safe for the community to enjoy
- Supervise and mentor our temporary staff (and volunteers) while successfully completing job tasks
- Work closely with the Operations and Maintenance Assistant Park Manager to accomplish park and Division-specific objectives
- Assist with EVERYTHING else that it takes to operate a park including opening/closing facilities, janitorial duties, litter removal, emergency response and more

The Basics (Required Education and Experience)
- High school diploma or GED
- One year of experience working in a park setting, providing educational programming, maintaining facilities or landscaping
- Valid Driver's License and "safe" driving record
- CPR certification within one year of employment
- Equivalent education and experience are accepted

Beyond the Basics (Preferred Education and Experience)
- Two or more years in landscaping, forestry, trades or related experience, bonus points if in a park setting
- Proven customer service skills
- Mechanical aptitude with general knowledge of small engine operation, maintenance, and repair
- Experience with the use of a variety of hand and landscaping tools
- Experience with using a variety of technological applications (i.e. GIS, Office365)
- NC Pesticide Applicators Certification
- Playground Safety Inspector Certification
- Equipment operation and mechanics (utility vehicles, tractors and other gas-powered equipment) experience
- Ability to communicate effectively in more than one language

Emergency Service Worker Statement
