Job Description:
The Wakefield Public Schools is seeking an enthusiastic, student-centered Math teacher at Wakefield Memorial High School effective September 1, 2025. Candidates will be responsible for teaching math courses for grades 9-12. Interested individuals should demonstrate the ability to design and facilitate engaging lessons that incorporate high-leverage instructional strategies.
*Position is pending budget approval.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Current Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education teaching license in 9-12 Mathematics
- Classroom teaching experience in a high school, or relevant student teaching experience
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Knowledge of state and national standards, and understanding of research-based best practices in mathematics teaching
- Experience with or ability to implement problem-based learning and assessment
- Use technology and multiple resources to enhance student learning
- Ability to work well on a team and collaborate to best meet the needs of students
- Have a desire to continually improve their practice as a teacher by taking and implementing feedback and a commitment to professional learning
- Believe that students of every background and ability can and will succeed at the highest levels of math
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Plan, teach, and assess student performance in high school math classes, including Algebra and Geometry
- Work with colleagues and families to support student learning
- Create and maintain a classroom environment that is safe, respectful, and welcoming in order to optimize student capabilities, develop a love of learning, and promote academic risk taking
- Implement lessons where reasoning, collaboration, productive struggle, and problem solving is expected of all students
- Differentiate services and instruction to meet variety of student learning needs and strengths, including students with disabilities and multilingual learners
- Use data to inform and adjust instruction, to track student progress, and to track professional progress through self-evaluation and goal setting
- Regularly contact (through face-to-face meetings, e-mail, and by phone) families regarding student progress
- Participate in collaborative meetings with colleagues to support student learning
- Attend professional development to continually improve practice
- Fulfill other responsibilities as assigned by the Principal
