What are the responsibilities and job description for the After School Program Staff position at Wakeman Boys & Girls Club?
PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Part-time adult and minor employees in these positions are responsible for assisting in organization, supervision and implementation of the After School Program and Out of School Program for elementary or middle school-aged youth in accordance with safety standards set forth by Wakeman Boys & Girls Club. Shifts are assigned Monday through Friday and Saturday/Sunday based on candidate availability. This role will not exceed 29.5 hours per week. This role reports directly to the After School Program (ASP) Coordinator.
KEY ROLES (Role-Specific Essential Duties):
- Supervise assigned areas in accordance with Wakeman Boys & Girls Club’s safety guidelines and best practice protocols.
- Manage a group of 10-20 youth alongside another staff member assigned to a group.
- Navigate and participate in a comprehensive schedule of age-appropriate activities.
- Facilitate high-energy games for youth.
- Communicate all issues and concerns to the Afterschool Program Coordinator.
- Promote positive friendships through learning the exploration of STEM, arts, and physical activities.
- Ensure a clean, healthy, safe, positive environment is created and maintained, producing a sense of physical and emotional safety.
- Assume other duties as assigned by supervisor as needed.
RELATIONSHIPS:
Internal: Maintain close, daily contact with Club staff (professional and volunteer), Club members, and supervisor to receive/provide information, discuss concerns, explain, or interpret guidelines/instructions; instruct, and advise/counsel members.
External: Maintain contact as needed with external community groups, schools, member's guardians and others.
SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:
- Minimum 18 years old (Adult Staff).
- Minimum 16 years old (Minor Staff).
- Prior work or volunteer experience in a Boys & Girls Club or similar setting working with youth.
- Group leadership skills, including an understanding of group dynamics.
- Ability to multi-task and work under pressure while maintaining a positive demeanor with youth.
- Organized, reliable, hard-working, strong moral values.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to pass a national criminal background check.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Remaining in a stationary position, often standing, or sitting for prolonged periods.
- Communicating with others to exchange information.
- Repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers.
- Assessing the accuracy, neatness and thoroughness of the work assigned.
- Ability to work in noisy environments
- Running or light exercise.
- Light work that includes moving objects up to 20 pounds.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $16.35 - $18.00 per hour
Expected hours: No more than 29.5 per week
