TITLE: Summer Camp Nurse
LOCATION: Madison Avenue Clubhouse
REPORTS TO: Camp Director/Senior Program Director/Unit Director
EMPLOYEE CLASSIFICATION: Part Time
LICENSE REQUIRED: First Aid, CPR/AED, Medication Administration Certifications required. Registered Nurse (RN), Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), EMT or candidates pursuing a similar field preferred.
PRIMARY FUNCTION:
The Wakeman Boys & Girls Club is looking for energetic and responsible employees who have a passion for working with children to join our organization in our Summer Day Camp. This position manages the camp health and safety program, provides medical treatment to campers and staff, when necessary, administers medication to campers, complies with all required documentation, and acts as health educator for campers and staff. The primary function of this and every other job at Wakeman Boys & Girls Club is to ensure that each member, guest, and visitor receives the highest standard of service.
KEY ROLES (Essential Job Responsibilities):
- Overseeing the preseason set-up and the post-season closing of the nurse station, which includes performing an opening/closing inventory of all supplies and equipment and ordering supplies/equipment as needed and approved.
- Going through physical health and permission to treat forms; making sure physical is within three (3) years and all paperwork is filled out correctly.
- Communicating with guardians about the medical record requirements for camp as well as speaking with parents about their child’s nurse visits during camp and following up with parents about medication pick-up at the end of camp, all with the support of camp directors.
- Assessing and assisting with the health and hygiene needs of campers.
- Administering medication and treatment to campers throughout their time at camp.
- Identifying pertinent camper medical needs (individual care of plan sheets, special diets, etc.) and ensuring that this information is communicated with the appropriate camp staff.
- Providing proper nursing intervention regarding camper and/or staff illness, condition, or emergency care and makes appropriate referrals and provides for follow-up care as warranted.
- Administer immediate first aid to injured parties, perform nursing assessments, implementing nursing intervention as guided by nursing judgment.
- Keeping records regarding administration of medication, prescribed treatments, and other health and medical needs. Following state and OEC standards in maintaining such records.
- Staying familiar with the health protocols and standing orders approved by a designated physician and follows protocols with campers and staff.
- Making rounds throughout the camp checking on campers, staff and the health and safety of the camp in general. Reporting to camp directors of any facility and grounds health risk factors.
- Completing and following up on incident reports.
- Supervising and coordinating other nursing staff.
- Performing other duties as assigned.
- Staff must wear proper uniform including Wakeman Staff shirt, walkie, earpiece and name tag.
- This position may require standing for long periods of time.
- This position may require lifting items up to 50lbs.
ADDITIONAL REPSONSIBILITIES:
- Ensuring a team-based work environment by communicating effectively and positively with supervisors, co-workers, volunteers, and other community partners.
- Making recommendations regarding members’ needs, program ideas, and facility needs.
- Performing other duties as assigned by Directors.
SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:
- RN or LPN is preferred. Current First Aid, CPR/AED and Med Admin certifications are required.
- Boys & Girls Club or youth organization experience preferred.
- Experience working with youth grades 1st-8th.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to motivate youth and manage behavior.
- Knowledge of youth development strategies.
- Ability to work with youth and families from a variety of backgrounds.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
