What are the responsibilities and job description for the Estimator position at Walashek?
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
This position is responsible for the following: Other duties may be assigned.
- Prepare competitive fixed price quotations (both labor and material), for maritime ship repair/refit and industrial repair/refit.
- Determine work procedures, crew size, machines/tooling, sub-contractors, material, and accessories required to accomplish work at a competitive price and acceptable margins.
- Coordinate with Walashek staff and trades as needed to gather information and process requirements for the accomplishment of work.
- Conduct ship-checks / site-checks as required to properly scope work.
- Obtain accurate bill of material (BOM) quotations in a timely manner.
- Maintain relationships with industry suppliers, vendors, and clients.
- Maintain and update the contract pipeline in coordination with Management.
- Build estimates and quotes using approved corporate policies.
Required Education & Experience:
- High School Diploma and/or some college or technical training preferred.
- 5-10 years of experience in estimating and planning.
Working Conditions:
Shipyard Environment conditions may involve hazardous situations including:
- Fall / Trip Hazards
- Fire Hazards
- Confined Space Entry
- Loud environments exceeding 40dB
- Climbing, crouching, and kneeling movements are required
- Office Environment
- Government and site office access is required to obtain drawings, tech manuals, and other technical and planning documentation required for estimating and bidding purposes.
Special Skills:
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, sketches, drawings, and technical manuals to machine parts and products according to specifications.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

- Ability to work under deadlines and schedule pressures with minimal supervision.
