What are the responsibilities and job description for the Head Women's Basketball Coach position at Waldorf University?
The Waldorf University Athletics Department in Forest City, IA, is seeking passionate and qualified candidates for Head Women’s Basketball Coach. Waldorf is NAIA and a member of the GPAC Conference. The Head Coach is responsible for all phases of the Women’s Basketball program including both the Varsity and JV teams in a manner compatible with Athletics Department and Waldorf University philosophies.
The ideal candidate will have a commitment to the mission of Waldorf University and be committed to the development of the student-athlete physically, mentally, spiritually, and morally. The candidate must also demonstrate the proven ability and desire to recruit quality student athletes to grow and further develop the athletes and program, especially from Iowa and surrounding states, strong communication and organizational skills, the ability to represent themselves and their program in professional and positive manner.
This is a full-time, benefit eligible and primarily 10-month (August through May annually) position with limited time commitments during June and July to complete any ongoing recruitment activities, attendance or representation at orientation day and Athletic department fundraising event(s), as well as monitoring responding to email or messages as needed.
Coaching Responsibilities (include, but are not limited to)
- Demonstrate strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills with athletes and University staff/faculty by example, consistency, and commitment
- Recruit quality student-athletes by actively visiting, calling and outreach activities;
- Provide instruction of associated skill sets, fundamentals, coaching skills and psychological skills training;
- Schedule practices, contests and work with Strength & Condition staff for team workouts;
- Coordination of travel arrangements for team competition;
- Set and maintain a high standard of compliance with all NAIA, conference and institutional rules and regulations at all times for self, coaching staff and athletes;
- Meet administration, mentoring and retaining student-athletes goals by participating in academic retention activities, University committees,
- Monitor and manage annual sport budgets (fiscal responsibility) and fundraising by solid and timely organizational management;
- Supervise and develop assistant coach(s), student coaches and players by providing mentoring, training and clear guidance of expectations
- Organize and manage camps and clinics through proper organization, communication and promotion
- Contribute to department through active participation in meetings, serving on committees and any other duties as assigned by the Athletic Director.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred
- Three to five years coaching experience. Preference given to those with Head Coaching experience and collegiate coaching experience at the NAIA level.
- The selected candidate will represent programs/university in a positive manner. This includes being a positive role model with appropriate behavior on and off the court.
- Must be able to work as a team member, be self-directed and willing to serve as a goodwill ambassador for Waldorf University Athletics.
- Possess experience working with diverse students and staff.
- Ability to organize and motivate student-athletes to maximum performance level in sports and academic achievements.
