Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for six 12-month fixed term positions as Consultant Anaesthetists to join our team working across two sites at the University Hospital Lewisham and Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Woolwich.

Main duties of the job

These are fixed term consultant posts for 12 months in anaesthetics at Lewisham & Greenwich NHS Trust (LGT). We are looking for a dedicated and enthusiastic colleague, who is committed to maintaining the highest standards in patient care, and who shares in the team vision to develop the Anaesthetic services at Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust.

Initially the 10 PA plan would comprise of 8.5 PA of direct clinical care (DCC) and 1.5 PA of supporting professional activity (SPA). One programmed activity of DCC is included for non-resident on call activity which will be based at the UHL site. This post is expected to involve cross site daytime sessions and weekend direct clinical care. The overall commitment in the job plan will be annualised with regard to sessions worked.

The job plan outlined in Appendix 1 is intended to demonstrate what a typical week will look like with on call commitments, an example plan is given. The weekly layout of the job plan may ultimately change slightly depending on workforce review, but the substance of the sessions and the DCC / SPA split will not.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Clinical Responsibilities :

• Participate in the provision of a safe, effective and efficient Anaesthetic service, and with the proper functioning of the Anaesthetic Department.
• Participate in the anaesthetic consultant on call rota.
• Be prepared to work on both sites of the Trust.
• Assist when required in the provision of Critical Care services.
