Job Overview
We are looking for a reliable and motivated Medical Assistant to join our back office team at the clinic. In this pivotal role, you will work alongside our healthcare providers to deliver efficient and compassionate care to a diverse group of patients. The ideal candidate will be highly organized, adaptable, and thrive in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Patient Reception and Flow: Greet patients in a friendly and professional manner, adhere to the clinic’s workflows to ensure smooth and efficient transitions between patient appointments.
  • Triage Patients: Assess and prioritize patient needs to ensure timely care and appropriate handling of each case.
  • Clinical Intake: Obtain and document essential patient information, including medical history, current medications, and chief complaint. Take vital signs and record all information accurately in the electronic health record (EHR) system.
  • Draw Blood: Perform venipuncture for lab tests as required, ensuring a smooth and comfortable process for patients.
  • Explain Procedures and Prepare Patients: Explain treatment procedures to patients, ensuring they are comfortable and informed. Prepare exam rooms and patients for examinations.
  • Assist Providers During Exams and Procedures: Position medical instruments and equipment as directed and hand them to the provider during exams and procedures. Administer medications, dress wounds or bandage injuries,
  • Clean and Sterilize Equipment: Clean and disinfect instruments and equipment after each use, following clinic protocols to ensure proper hygiene and safety.
  • Conduct Diagnostic Tests: Perform diagnostic tests, such as eye exams, electrocardiograms (EKGs), audiograms, and other basic nursing functions, following the provider’s instructions.
  • Perform Lab Tests and Process Specimens: Conduct CLIA-waived lab tests, draw blood, label specimens, and process them for send-out.
  • Urine Drug Screen Testing: Perform Non-DOT urine drug screens following the proper chain of custody, ensuring proper preparation for pickup and shipment to the appropriate laboratory (after certification training).
  • Medication Dosage Calculations: Accurately calculate dosages for administering medications and ensure safe administration according to protocols.
  • Perform X-Rays: Assist in performing basic x-rays as required and according to clinic protocols.
  • Charting and Documentation: Accurately document medical services rendered, test results, and supplies used in patient charts, ensuring compliance with clinic standards. Update patient health measures for quality incentive programs from insurance.
  • Prior Authorizations: Complete prior authorizations for medications and imaging in a timely manner to facilitate patient care.
  • Maintain a Clean and Organized Work Environment: Follow clinic protocols for cleanliness, safety, and patient confidentiality, ensuring a well-maintained workspace.
  • Patient Communication and Follow-ups: Schedule patient appointments, manage patient records, and respond to patient inquiries in a timely and professional manner. Perform patient callbacks, arrange for referrals and testing, and schedule follow-up appointments as necessary.
  • Monitor Inventory: Monitor and maintain inventory of disposable medical supplies, pharmaceuticals, and other medical materials to ensure the clinic is adequately stocked.
  • Equipment Quality Checks: Conduct regular quality checks on medical equipment to ensure it is functioning correctly and safely.
  • Training and Onboarding: Assist in the onboarding and training of new staff members, helping them integrate into the clinic’s workflow and protocols.
  • Continuous improvement: Participate in continuous improvement projects by collaborating with all team members to enhance workflows at the clinic.
  • Ad-hoc: Perform additional tasks and provide flexible support as necessary to support the changing needs of the clinic.

Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • Some college or college degree preferred.
  • Medical Assistant (MA) certification preferred.
  • NextGen Office experience a PLUS
  • Computer Proficiency - Microsoft Office Suite (Teams, Outlook, Word, Excel)
  • Experience - Though Medical Assistant (MA) experience is preferred, we will also consider candidates with relevant experience in healthcare roles such as nursing assistants or other clinical positions.
  • Skills:
  • Proficiency in electronic health records (EHR) and basic computer applications.
  • Strong multitasking skills in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to quickly learn new systems and processes.
  • Professional demeanor and exceptional communication skills.
  • Punctual, reliable, and able to work independently.
  • Phlebotomy skills preferred.

Competency Testing:
To ensure that candidates are well-suited for the position, all applicants will undergo competency testing as part of the hiring process. This evaluation will assess the essential skills and qualifications required for the role and determine if you are a good fit for the position.

Training and Assessment:

  • Rigorous Assessment: All candidates will undergo a thorough evaluation to ensure they meet the necessary skills and qualifications.
  • Two-Week Training:
  • Week 1 (Unpaid): Hands-on training and clinic orientation.
  • Week 2 (Paid): In-depth training where you will shadow experienced staff and begin taking on responsibilities with supervision.
