Walla Walla Community College (WWCC) is seeking a creative and talented instructor focused on student success who has a strong knowledge background to fulfill the tenure-track role of Construction Trades Apprenticeship Preparation (CTAP) Instructor in the Corrections Education program located at the Washington State Penitentiary in Walla Walla, Washington.
This position is filled to fulfill a contract awarded to Walla Walla Community College (WWCC) by the Washington State Board for Community and Technical Colleges (WSBCTC) to operate a correctional education program at WSP in accordance with an interagency agreement with the Department of Corrections. Walla Walla Community College and its employees working in a correctional education program are expected to follow all Department of Corrections (DOC) Policies, IT and other Security requirements, follow DOC Operational Memorandums, and comply with the Superintendent’s directions.

General Description:
The workforce faculty at WWCC are innovative and passionate professionals focused on student success. We are seeking a creative and dynamic individual who will become an active and engaged member of our education team. This position will teach 212 days a year face-to-face instruction with students at the Washington State Penitentiary.
CTAP is an 11-week introductory course to prepare students to enter an apprenticeship. This program introduces students to the construction trades, with an emphasis on carpentry skills and agility. Students will also gain knowledge of a variety of trades including but not limited to, Laborers, Iron Workers, and Cement Masons.
Teaching and Related Responsibilities:
Introduction to a variety of different building trades. Orient students to the objectives of the program, learning outcomes and assessment methods.- Basic Tools, Basic Construction, Basic Blueprints (Safe use of tools for various trades, toolbelt preparation, draw basic blueprints, complete physical agility courses for various trades).
- Introduction to Worksite Behavior, Readiness and Safety (Jobsite setting, material handling, physical stamina required for construction, OSHA 10, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion).
- Math for the Trades Fundamentals (Including but not limited to: Fractions, percentages, measuring techniques, concepts of lineal ft, square ft and volume).
- Maintain tool and material inventory in accordance with DOC policy and procedures.
- Participate in conferences, seminars, and training sessions to keep abreast of developments in the field and integrate relevant information into training programs.
- Observe and evaluate students' work to determine progress, provide feedback, and make suggestions for improvement.

Qualifications:
Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered at the discretion of the college.
Required Qualifications
- Four years of recent journey level work experience in building trades OR 1-year certificate or degree and two years journey level work experience in building trades
- Associate degree in carpentry or related field
- Previous supervisory or lead experience in construction
- Previous experience teaching in adult education, high school, or industry

Conditions/Terms of Employment
This is a full-time 212-day tenure-track faculty position is located inside the Washington State Penitentiary, an adult male prison. Interacts daily with students (incarcerated individuals), instructors, counselors, DOC, and WWCC staff. Successful candidate must have the ability to travel between buildings with or without accommodations. Washington State Penitentiary is fully ADA compliant. The campus is tobacco free institution.
Faculty terms and conditions of employment are negotiated with their exclusive bargaining representative, the Association for Higher Education. A complete copy of the agreement can be found on the WWCC Human Resources Page.
Persons hired must be able to provide acceptable documentation of lawful authorization to work in the United States within three (3) days of employment and official college transcripts. WWCC participates in E-Verify and will provide the federal government with your Form I-9 information to confirm that you are authorized to work in the U.S. All Walla Walla Community College staff members employed at one of the Correction Education facilities must be cleared by an FBI background check before being hired into such positions and successfully complete a 3-week corrections training program. Information from the background check may not necessarily preclude employment but will be considered in determining the applicant’s suitability and competence to perform in the position. The College is a tobacco-free campus.
Department of Correction positions are grant funded and funding is not guaranteed. Upon loss of grant funding, the position will end. WWCC does not absorb the cost to fund DOC grant positions.
Compensation:
The College has a negotiated faculty salary schedule. Employee placement on the schedule is determined by education level and experience. Salary is dependent on the number of days of the contract and the candidate’s placement on the negotiated faculty salary schedule. Initial placement is generally $68,178 - $77,724 for a standard 212-day contract, dependent on qualifications (additional compensation for doctorate degree). The College has a comprehensive faculty benefit program including medical, dental, life, and long-term disability insurance; paid sick leave; and retirement and two optional deferred compensation programs. All full-time employees will automatically have 3% of taxable income deferred into the State of Washington Deferred Compensation Program (DCP). The college also supports faculty professional development. Walla Walla Community College requires all employees to participate in direct deposit for payment of salary.
