Salary Range: $26.79/hour to $35.89/hour; Starting Salary DOQ, DOE

Brief Duties and Responsibilities: The Walla Walla District Court (WWDC) covers three (3) jurisdictions within Walla Walla County: City of Walla Walla, City of College Place and the County of Walla Walla. The WWDC was established in accordance with state law and is the limited jurisdiction judicial branch of government for the county and two municipalities. The court is authorized to hear both criminal and civil matters. This position is for one of the trial clerks in the courtroom, and they facilitate the actual courtroom process, record the proceedings, direct the parties in the procedures and are available to assist the judge in whatever the judge may need during hearings and trials. After court sessions are concluded, this position is required to enter all the results obtained from the court process: this includes entering new court dates and information into JIS, scanning documentation from the hearings, and marking the hearings as complete. A large part of this position is handling court records, both manual and in electronic form.

Working Environment/Physical Abilities: Work is performed in the usual office environment and in courtroom. Must possess the physical ability to sit for long periods of time while performing duties. Physical abilities required for this position are those typically related to office operations including: manual dexterity and visual acuity to operate personal computers and other office equipment; ability to lift twenty (20) pounds; access file cabinets and sufficient hearing and speech ability to communicate verbally; and interacting with individuals who often have a low level of education, substance abuse issues, and mental health issues. Possible exposure to communicable diseases and illness from defendants and others in the courtroom, and court office.

Minimum Qualifications: Education And Experience: High School Diploma or equivalent required. At least five (5) years’ experience working in the criminal justice system, two (2) years of which are as court clerk and reporter; or an eight (8) year combination of training and experience in processing criminal and traffic cases through the court system with at least two (2) years as a court clerk. An Associate Degree (AA) preferred and two (2) years’ experience working in the criminal justice system with State training regarding criminal and traffic law and practice, or at least five (5) years combinations of training, experience and education in criminal justice court system. Licenses And Other Requirements: Current, valid Driver’s License and must successfully pass a driving record check. Required to pass a criminal background check that will allow for access to all appropriate court and state information systems. File an Oath of Confidentiality with the State of Washington Administrative Office of the Courts. Bilingual in Spanish preferred, but not required.
