What are the responsibilities and job description for the IT Support Specialist position at Wallace State Community College?
The IT Support Specialist provides technical assistance and network support, including hardware and software support to the entire academic and administrative areas in the campus community, in addition to troubleshooting and repairing computer problems, installing, diagnosing, repairing, maintaining, and upgrading all hardware and software while ensuring optimal end-user performance. They may also mentor and train student assistants and interns.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Associate’s degree in computer science or related field required. An equivalent combination of experience, certification, and training may be substituted for degree requirement.
2. Two years’ related experience is preferred.
3. Must be able to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing, including the ability to comprehend and carry out complex oral and written instructions.
4. Must be able to work independently and maintain confidentiality.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Operate and maintain computer networks and personal computers.
2. Practices, procedures, and equipment used in computer operations.
3. Work with various operating systems, for example: Windows, macOS, Linux.
4. Work with various software applications, for example: Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, and Power Point), Microsoft 365, Adobe Acrobat, and browsers.
5. Work with various enterprise mobile devices (Android, iPhone, Blackberry).
6. Provides administrative, direct face-to-face, and campus based technical support to students, faculty and staff on a wide variety operating systems and hardware platforms and network connectivity issues, and maintains in-house computer systems, desktops, peripherals and applications.
7. Develop and recommend specifications for new hardware/software solutions for use by the college community.
8. Works with end users to identify and deliver the required support service levels.
9. Conducts training and support to end users on accessing/utilizing computer resources and applications.
10. Installs, configures, tests, maintains, monitors, and troubleshoot end user workstation hardware and software.
11. Troubleshoot networks include but not limited to TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, switches, routers, firewalls, and wireless.
12. Performs analysis, diagnosis, and resolution of complex IT problems for end users, and recommends and implements corrective solutions.
13. Receives and responds to incoming support request.
14. Maintains inventories of all IT related hardware and software.
15. Assists in preparing, maintaining, and upholding procedures for logging, reporting, and statistically monitoring system performance.
16. Accurately documents instances of hardware and software failure, repair, installation, and removal.
17. Supports development and implementation of new Information System projects. Engages with third-party support, PC equipment, and software vendors about their software functionality.
18. Installs new computer workstations in campus computer labs, develops methods for rapidly deploying new systems and restoring old systems by the use of cloning or other technologies.
19. Manage their specific ticket queue, troubleshoot encryption and system configuration issues, and add and troubleshoot hardware such as hard disks and memory.
20. Mentor and train student assistants and interns.
21. In order to perform these essential functions, the IT Support Specialist must be present at work. Therefore, attendance is an essential job function.
SALARY: Appropriate placement on State Salary Schedule E3 ($39,759-$57,251) of the Alabama Community College System Salary Schedule.
