Position to start as soon as possible and is contingent upon sufficient funding for the CSE Lab.
Position Summary
Walsh University seeks a highly motivated and self-directed individual to acquire business opportunities for the Center for Scientific Excellence (CSE) Lab, the Walsh University IGNITE project and other key strategic university initiatives as defined by the Executive Director of Cross Enterprise Operations. This individual must have a track record of successful sales experience, preferably in the laboratory space. A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree is required, preferably in chemistry or a related field. The BDM will be seeking new customers who will use the CSE analytical services, both for routine and custom work, will be helping to build, maintain and expand relationships with potential business partners for grants, collaborative projects, programming and research and will help raise the profile of the CSE lab and other strategic university initiatives in the region, the State of Ohio and nationally.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:
- Build a portfolio of new customers who will pay for the analytical services offered by the CSE lab
- Develop, maintain and cultivate customer relationships to enable repeat business and expanded services provided through other IGNITE/university initiatives by delivering excellent customer service and strategic engagement
- Develop sales literature and marketing strategies IPW with the Walsh University Marketing group and maintain periodic customer communication and engagement as directed
- Monitor and facilitate customer engagement and be responsible for customer invoicing and accounts receivable
- Maintain customer records and perform analytics on customer behaviors
- Contribute to the lab operations and other program logistics and operations as needed to ensure ongoing success

Required Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)
Must understand and support the Mission, Vision and Code of Ethical Conduct of Walsh University, as a Catholic higher education university as expressed in Ex Corde Ecclesiae.
Education: Applicants must hold a minimum Bachelor Degree, preferably with a background in Chemistry or related field in the sciences.
Work Experience: Prior successful experience in sales, preferably in the laboratory services or scientific equipment sectors.
Skills and abilities:
- Must be a strong communicator with high emotional intelligence and able to track prospect engagement, close sales calls with companies/clients to sell CSE laboratory services or other university programs
- Must understand basic chemistry and analytical services with the assistance of CSE scientists to facilitate potential clients to use the CSE lab for their analyses
- Must be willing to work collaboratively with the lab personnel and management to meet sales targets and to navigate customer expectations with university capabilities
- Must have excellent follow up and follow through to stay connected to customers and meet their needs
- Must be organized and familiar with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, SharePoint and PowerPoint.

- Candidate must be willing to travel every week to visit potential clients, track and report progress and close deals for CSE lab work. The work is not physically demanding and work environment is meant to be collaborative and collegial.
