What You Will Do
Ride Industrial Designers translate creative and technical requirements into functional solutions that deliver form, fit, and function to our guests and key stakeholders. They work as part of a ride project team, and collaborate closely with both Creative and Engineering Leads to ensure creative intent and user comfort/safety is delivered in final engineered equipment. This involves scope for most of the ride components our guests see and touch, and requires a combination of applied art and applied science to deliver the unique and competitive look, ergonomics, and quality of a Disney experience.

The hiring range for this position in California is $84,500 to $113,300 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate's geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.

- Creatively apply ID principals to assist in the design of a wide variety of innovative ride platforms, components, & related equipment for one of a kind life safety systems
- Translate creative intent into engineering requirements and vice-versa
- Conceive and implement elegant solutions to complex design challenges and stakeholder requirements
- Implement proof of concept prototype & mockups: design/fabricate/test
- Aide in defining and prescribing materials and processes for both prototypical design and production manufacturing
- Produce high quality imagery, models, and solutions for production-based designs
- Assist with installation, field support, testing, and standards development
- Explore and evaluate new and emerging technologies for practical use
Required Qualifications & Skills
- 2 to 6 years relevant experience
- Relevant design expertise (eg. machine/mechanism/product/vehicle design, kinematics, materials)
- Ergonomic and human factors knowledge and experience
- Strong ID sketching and rendering abilities (analog and digital)
- 3D modeling and animation capabilities (StudioTools, Solidworks, Modo, Rhino, Maya, etc)
- Knowledge of production/manufacturing processes, material properties, and applications
- Superior design sensibilities and creative problem solving
- Ability to communicate complex technical concepts with non-technical audience
- Work collaboratively within a large and diverse team environment
- Highly dependable, strong work ethic, with excellent time management skills
- Comfortable working in a creative/chaotic environment
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with life safety design/requirements
- Experience with prototype, development and/or innovative products
- Hands on experience with equipment assembly, fabrication, sculpting and installation
- Excellent communication/presentation skills
- Proactive/self-sufficient/able to work with minimal guidance
Education
- Degree or equivalent experience in industrial design, engineering, fine arts, theater, animation, architecture, or environmental design
