What are the responsibilities and job description for the Construction Assistant position at WARM, Inc.?

The ideal candidate enjoys working with volunteers of all age levels and helping low-income homeowners by making repairs and accessibility modifications to their homes. This position requires interpersonal skills, compassion, and patience in addition to some previous construction experience.
Reports to: Construction Supervisor
Location: New Hanover County and the surrounding areas.
Schedule: Monday – Friday and 1-2 Saturdays per month; time off during the week can be arranged to balance Saturdays.
Compensation: $16.00-$20.00 Hourly, Full Time Role
Key Responsibilities:
- Work side by side with adult and high school aged volunteers with various level of construction/repair skills.
- Coordinate tool trailer or debris removal trailer if required for the project. Keep trailers organized and within safe working conditions.
- Be present during all scheduled work times as needed, address unforeseen construction issues that may come up (acquiring additional materials, etc.)
- Ensure work scope is complete, project site is clean at all times, tools and unused materials returned as appropriate.
- Complete light paperwork related to purchase and use of building materials, mileage, progress on repair work, and volunteer involvement.
Required Attributes
- Basic construction and repair skills (at least 1 year required)
- Ability to give instruction to and teach unskilled volunteers
- Good written and strong verbal communication skills
- Creates a positive environment and experience homeowners and volunteers
- Patience, flexibility, adaptability, sense of humor
- Basic computer skills
- Well organized
- Commitment to the WARM mission and serving those in need
- Appreciation for diversity and creating an inclusive environment
- Valid driver’s license and dependable transportation
