Reporting Relationship: Dean of the Natural Sciences and Health Division

Summary Description: The Assistant/Associate Professor of Mathematics reports to the Dean of the Division of Natural Sciences and Health and is responsible for teaching mathematics and statistics classes and advising students in the Division of Natural Sciences and Health. At Warner Pacific University, mathematics primarily serves other majors and students taking mathematics for general education core requirements. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the School’s academic programs, with an emphasis on mathematics or mathematics education, and support the School’s initiatives within the mathematics, and mathematics education community. The successful candidate will also be expected to engage in scholarly activity through curriculum and professional development, and participation in various conferences.

Essential Functions:
• Teach assigned courses, from Beginning Algebra and introductory statistics through Discrete Mathematics and Linear Algebra, articulating and modeling current best practices in teaching.
• Advise and mentor students.
• Assist with curriculum development and assessment in university programs that require mathematics.
• Serve on faculty and/or institutional committees as assigned and/or elected.
• Engage in scholarly activity in mathematics and mathematics education.
• Continue professional growth, including participation in the professional development opportunities.
• Work collegially with faculty, staff, and students.
• Advise and mentor adjunct mathematics instructors as assigned by the Dean.
• Understand and promote the mission, vision, values, and core themes of Warner Pacific University.
• Exhibit excellent communication skills in all interactions with students, faculty, and staff.
• Support and contribute to the implementation of the strategic plan of the university.
• Adhere to university policies and procedures.
• Demonstrate a commitment to a Christian Liberal Arts education by upholding the mission of the university and abiding by the Employment Standards and Lifestyle Agreement.
• Exhibit commitment to inclusiveness and sensitivity in areas of national origin, ethnicity, culture, gender and disabilities.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
Assistant/Associate Professor of Mathematics

Minimum Qualifications:
• Graduate degree in mathematics or education/teaching required.
• University-level teaching experience in relevant curriculum.

Preferred Qualifications:
• Ph.D. in mathematics or applied mathematics.
• Experience working with diverse populations, including first-generation students and students with limited mathematical backgrounds.
• Ability to educate and mentor adult learners as well as traditional students.

Physical Demands – Work Environment:
The position is located in a typical office environment. Professional/business casual attire is required.
