Warren Wilson seeks an innovative, student-centered leader to join our dynamic community as the Associate Vice President & Director of Residence Life; Title IX Coordinator (AVP). We are seeking an executive leader who thrives in collaborative settings and is committed to making a positive impact on student success. The AVP is a senior leader in the Division who reports directly to the Vice President for Student Engagement (VPSE), serves on the VPSE leadership team, and provides administrative leadership and oversight to the Division in the absence of the VPSE. The AVP serves as the Director of Residence Life for a robust residence life program of approximately 800 students and will be instrumental in leading efforts to maximize the impacts of our living-learning communities. The position also serves as the Title IX Coordinator for the College.

Minimum Qualifications
- Master’s degree education in student personnel, higher education administration or related field.
- 9 years of progressively significant leadership experience in student affairs.
- 3 years experience serving as Director of Residence Life in a college setting.
- Demonstrated experience working with Title IX cases.
- Demonstrated experience in professional associations.
- Thorough understanding of student development and learning theories, best practices, and organizational management.
- Commitment to the values and opportunities espoused in a residential liberal arts education.
- Knowledge and understanding of current issues in higher education and federal laws impacting college students.
- Demonstrated knowledge of student information relations systems and technology and a demonstrated ability to use data in the analysis and evaluation of programs and services.
- Demonstrated commitment to inclusive excellence and the inherent value of Warren Wilson’s distinctive approach to education in the liberal arts and sciences.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively manage, plan and coordinate response(s) to crisis or emergency situations.
Preferred Qualifications
- Doctoral degree. ABD will be considered.
- ATIXA Coordinator or similar certification.

Key Responsibilities
Associate Vice President
The AVP is a senior leadership position in the Division who provides administrative leadership and oversight to the Student Engagement division in the absence of the VPSE. The AVP also serves as the Title IX Coordinator for the College and has oversight and implementation of Title IX policies and procedures. Serves as co-advisor to the Student Government Association; works with VPSE to assure that work crews in the Division maintain high standards of functioning and outcomes; has oversight over all Divisional policies and procedures, to assure that our policies and procedures are in compliance and up to date.
- Provides administrative leadership and oversight to the Student Engagement division in the absence of the Vice President.
- Coordinates and implements assessments and evaluations for the Division; this includes assuring assessment cycles are maintained and monitoring to assure program effectiveness across the Division.
- Oversees staff professional development in the Division; ensures enhancement of professionalism and other competencies e.g. as promulgated by professional associations such as NASPA.
- Oversight of Student Engagement policies and procedures; assures policies and procedures are up to date and in compliance.
- In collaboration with VPSE, assists in providing leadership and oversight to the Director for Student Engagement and Leadership, especially as it relates to learning communities to assure seamless transition for students.
- Works to assure that work crews in Student Engagement maintain excellence; assures effective liaison and coordination with WPO.
- Serves as co-advisor to the Student Government Association.
- Keeps informed on trends in higher education and legal issues that relate to student life; participates in relevant professional associations and conferences.
- In consultation with VPSE, participates in campus shared governance structure by serving on committees and task forces.
- Engages in crisis response; this includes the following:
- Serves as a member of the Emergency Response Team (ERT) and the Behavioral Intervention Team (BIT).
- Provides Student Engagement on-call student crisis/emergency response.
- Provide support to students in crisis and make referrals as necessary.
- Determine when to inform and involve the Vice President in crisis response.
- Engage in professional development.
- Position is required to live on campus.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Director of Residence Life
Is the official representative of the department of Residence Life. Develops and administers a comprehensive residence life program for approximately 800 students including the supervision of professional residence life staff; oversight and coordination of the learning communities; coordination of assessments and evaluation; oversees conduct and collaborates with Wellness and Identity Integration regarding conduct issues. Maintains a high level of visibility with students, staff and faculty.
Administrative Oversight
- Ensure a safe living and learning environment that embraces inclusivity, engages students in healthy lifestyles, promotes Warren Wilson College core values, and supports the Triad mission of the College.
- Develop, maintain and promote the residence life mission, strategic plans, policies and procedures within the guidelines and practices of the College.
- Develop, maintain and promote the residence life mission statement, strategic plans, policies and procedures within the guidelines and practices of the College and student engagement division.
- Establish and maintain strong relationships with students.
- Analyze campus housing trends and provide guidance for best practices in campus housing.
- Assess the needs, learning outcomes and satisfaction of students regarding their residential experience.
- Develop, manage and monitor budgets.
- Ensure excellent service to students, parents and other constituents.
- Fosters close working relationships with key departments such as Dining Services, Admissions Office/Enrollment Management, Work Program, Public Safety, Disability Services, Student Government etc.
- Responds to student concerns and issues.
- Supervise, select, train, and evaluate professional staff.
- Develop and implement effective professional development and training for RAs, RD and Housing staff, including continual improvement of staff job descriptions, oversight of fall and winter training and regular in-service training; ensures the implementation of a successful student staff selection and onboarding.
- Ensures staff coverage year-round including all College breaks.
- Supervise the housing assignment process including housing lottery, new student assignments, mid-year room changes, etc.
- Work with the Disability Access Committee to address medical accommodations, such as emotional support animals, medical single rooms, and waiver of meal plans.
- Approve housing exceptions such as changes to residential status, waiver of meal plans, first-year car permits, etc.
- Oversee check-in and check-out processes including room inspections, billing, and key dissemination/collection.
- Provide leadership for the design and delivery of educational, community-building, and leadership development programming for resident students.
- Ensure a positive living and learning environment that supports the Triad mission of the College.
- Serves as the Student Engagement module manager in the campus ERP software Jenzabar.
- Develops Student Engagement marketing materials in coordination with the Enrollment division.
Coordinates Conduct in collaboration with Wellness and Identity Integration
- Ensure the implementation of a fair conduct process for all residential students.
- Interpret and apply Warren Wilson College conduct policies.
- Understand and apply legal issues as they relate to student issues.
- Train and oversee conduct officers, ensuring conduct philosophy is consistently applied by all officers.
- Coordinate the dissemination, tracking, and accountability of conduct cases.
- Coordinate the activity of the Conduct Board including training, advisement, and case referral.
- Address policy violations.
Title IX Coordinator
- Coordinates and facilitates the institution's compliance to Title IX of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and all of its updates as they occur.
- Develops and implements educational programs regarding discrimination and sexual harassment prevention, ensuring faculty, staff and students understand their rights and, where applicable, responsibilities under the law including obligations regarding reporting options/responsibilities, support services, College policy and applicable disciplinary code, grievance procedures, confidential resources, etc.
- Oversees and coordinates investigations, responses and resolutions to complaints, to include selection and supervision of investigators and training of Title IX.
- Develops, implements, coordinates and conducts educational programs and initiatives designed to educate and support faculty, staff, and students regarding their rights and, where applicable, obligations under Title IX, including reporting options/responsibilities, support services, College policy and applicable disciplinary code, grievance procedures, confidential resources, etc.
- Oversees, coordinates and ensures investigations of reports and complaints of sexual misconduct are adequate, reliable, timely, confidential and impartial; reviews proposed sanctions for sexual misconduct before they are imposed to ensure that they are reasonably calculated to stop the sexual misconduct and prevent its recurrence.
- Identifies systemic problems relating to complaints and determines whether campus-wide resources should be adopted in response, including review and revision of the College's sexual misconduct policies, increased monitoring, supervision or security at locations where sexual misconduct is reported to occur, and increased education and prevention efforts to targeted populations.
- Collaborates with leadership and campus constituencies to disseminate information, redesign processes, and support the College's investigative processes; collaborates and coordinates with compliance partners across the institution to support overlapping compliance needs and responsibilities.
- Communicates and coordinates with local victim advocacy organizations and service providers.
- Ensures ongoing compliance with Title IX by collecting and analyzing data and maintaining records of investigations.
- Maintains knowledge of federal, state, and institutional policies and practices specific to the applicable compliance specialty.
- Other duties as assigned.
