Description
The Fleet Mechanic perform maintenance, diagnosis, and repairs on our fuel and flatbed trucks, along with other truck equipment in a safe, efficient, quality minded and customer focused manner. |
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES |
• Perform required inspections and preventive maintenance on vehicles and equipment to maximize the safety, productivity, and life of the unit. |
• Perform maintenance and repair welding on equipment. |
• Fabricate parts as required including any design work needed |
• Stay current on all DOT policies and maintain all DOT files relative to the maintenance of the fleet. |
• Ensure that customers vehicles are kept clean and washed after repair is completed |
• Perform final operational test on all vehicles to quality-check all repairs |
• Give all customers, internal and external, prompt and courteous service. |
• Maintains workshop area in a neat, clean and orderly fashion. |
• Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading technical and regulation publications. |
• Coordinates transportation fleet vehicle service requests for the purpose of providing clear communications between drivers, maintenance, office staff regarding needs for vehicle and/or equipment services. |
• Follow paper-flow procedures including documenting correct mileage/hours, save and tag all warranty and core parts, document all repairs on work order using complaint, cause, and correction format, follow parts ordering/billing procedures. |
• Diagnose cause of any malfunction and perform repairs to manufacturers specifications including engines, transmissions and clutches, suspension and steering, fuel and ignition (gas and diesel), electrical systems, brakes, and HVAC systems. |
• Perform operation test prior to repairs to verify complaint. |
• Advise the Company of any actions/situations that pose a threat to any employee, customer, or guests. |
• Observe safety and security procedures and uses equipment and materials properly. |
• Adhere to all city, county, state, and federal regulations pertaining to the proper operation of equipment, chemical usage and storage, hazmat requirements, and OSHA requirements. |
• Immediately advise the Director of Transportation and Director of Human Resources of any issues that could negatively impact the Company. |

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES |
• CDL Requirement - Ability to obtain Class A CDL with Hazmat and Tanker Endorsement |
• On-call duties for the company service truck as needed |
• Knowledge of engines and controls |
• Knowledge of transmissions and controls |
• Knowledge of brakes, suspensions and hydraulics |
• Knowledge of the various vehicles and equipment such as bucket trucks and digger/derricks |
• Skilled in diagnosis and repair of electrical systems on trucks and equipment |
• Skilled in welding and cutting |
• Skilled in DOT inspections |
Qualifications
• HD truck technical training or 2 years related experience |
• DOT Certification |
• Current and valid commercial driver’s license |
