THE POSITION


The Operations and Maintenance Division of Land Use & Transportation is recruiting for an Engineering Technician I.

County's roads, bridges, culverts, signs, striping, and other assets. Additionally, they issue permits for working in the right-of-way and inspect development work to ensure compliance. The Engineering Technician I in OPS will perform data collection on County infrastructure assets, learn how to build work plans, inspect contracted maintenance projects, and evaluate service requests submitted by the public. Additionally, the Engineering Technician I will learn about permits and development and maintain data in our Asset Management system.

Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication skills and have strong attention to detail. They will be able to work independently or as part of a team, problem solve, and look for opportunities for improvement. They will also be comfortable working with a diverse group of individuals including engineers, developers, utilities, contractors, other government agencies and the public. The ideal candidate will be familiar with the fundamentals of roadway construction or have a technical background and practical experience in Road Maintenance or general construction practices. They will also have experience or exposure to construction or inspection of infrastructure assets within a government agency. Experience in local government supporting road or transportation asset datasets is preferred.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • One (1) year of responsible experience in one or more of the following: transportation infrastructure construction, transportation infrastructure construction inspection, construction management, civil engineering, traffic engineering, or surveying, AND one (1) year of other work experience in an office or field setting; OR
  • An Associate's Degree in civil engineering or related field.

Additional Requirements:
  • A valid driver's license and an acceptable driving record per Washington County policy.

Selection Process

  2. MQ Review: HR will screen applications for minimum qualifications after the posting closes.
  3. SME Review: Applications for candidates that meet minimum qualifications will be forwarded to a panel of subject matter experts (SME) who will review and score your application materials. This process may take up to 2 weeks.
  4. Panel Interview(s): Our goal is to schedule panel interviews with candidates who meet the minimum qualifications and pass the SME review as soon as possible.
  5. Reference Checks: The hiring manager will conduct reference checks on the top candidate.
  6. Salary Analysis & Conditional Offer: Human Resources will conduct a salary analysis for the successful candidate(s) and extend a conditional offer of appointment.
  7. Post-Offer Checks: Human Resources will conduct any required backgrounds or driving records (if the position requires them)
  8. Start Date: A start date will be determined after all conditions of employment have been met.
