Role Overview
Facilitates all aspects of the background screening processes and recordkeeping for employees and select volunteers and contractors as required by law and WCPS policy. Performs fingerprinting services, facilitates employee I-9 document collection, and is responsible for the tracking of the employer background review as required by Maryland House Bill 486.
Minimum Requirements
High School Diploma/GED.
Three (3) years of successful experience working in a high-volume office environment or advanced training/college in human resources or business.
Eligible and willing to obtain Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS) fingerprint certification within six months of hire.
Demonstrated skills in a variety of software tools including MS Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) and Google Applications.
Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of sensitive employee information.
Must be extremely detail-oriented and accurate in reviewing, processing, and tracking documents.
Ability to multitask, organize, and prioritize within a fast-paced office environment.
Demonstrated positive human relations skills including phone, email, and in-person interactions.
Regular and predictable attendance is an essential function of this position.
Ability to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodations.
Preferred Qualifications
AA Degree.
Experience in a human resources environment.
Previous fingerprinting experience.
Role Responsibilities
Primary processor of criminal history background checks required by Maryland House Bill 486.
Primary contact and processor for fingerprinting services for prospective employees and select volunteers and contractors.
Processes, tracks electronically, and ensures all background checks are completed.
Manages confidential matters relating to employees, volunteers, or perspective employees with a high degree of professionalism and confidentiality.
Monitors background investigation responses, including notices of arrests and expunctions, letters, and reprints from the Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS).
Notifies appropriate human resources administrators of information received through the background investigations, including additional information that arises after employment commences.
Acts as liaison with CJIS, KROLL, and other law enforcement agencies, as appropriate.
Reviews and processes mail and e-mail from CJIS, KROLL, and follows through with any corrections to records.
Verifies and records any previous teaching experience through the Maryland Department of Education certification website.
Works with schools to explain and determine needed clearances for school volunteers.
Creates new and replacement ID badges, activating as appropriate.
Assists the human resources staff with filing and other general office duties such as scanning and employee verifications.
Demonstrates courteous and professional demeanor to all stakeholders of Washington County Public Schools.
Performs other duties as assigned.
