Role Overview
The Routing Specialist is responsible for the planning, development and maintenance of school bus routes, both general and special education, utilizing computer assisted routing software.
Minimum Requirements
High School Diploma.
Two (2) years of college and/or technical school or related work experience in routing, mapping, and transportation administration.
Proficient knowledge and skills with the use of computerized database software to include Microsoft Office Suite with an emphasis on Excel, Word, Google and Email Systems.
Working knowledge of Washington County roads and geography.
Possess a valid CDL with “P” and “S” endorsements or the ability to obtain within 90 days of employment.
Meet and maintain all requirements of a certified School Bus Driver for WCPS or ability to obtain certification within 90 days of employment.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Excellent customer service and team building skills.
Demonstrated success in accomplishing tasks like those responsibilities listed below.
Decision-making experience with data analysis, implementation, and reporting.
Ability to adjust the workday schedule, with little to no notice, to meet the priorities established for the position and to meet the demands of the Department.
Regular and predictable attendance, an essential function of this position.

Preferred Qualifications
AA degree or higher in business administration, computer science, or another related field.
Knowledge of WCPS policies and procedures as it relates to the Department of Transportation.
Experience with the use of transportation routing software, particularly Tyler VersaTrans, and/or geographical information systems (GIS).
Role Responsibilities
Manage routing software which results in safe and efficient school bus routes. This could include the following:
Continually updates routing software and maps to ensure accuracy of roads to include new roadways, travel restrictions, closures and other modifications.
Determine route and route changes for publication to school staff, bus drivers, contractors, and the community.
Analyze documentation and information pursuant to the laws, policies, procedures, and guidelines governing pupil transportation for Washington County Public Schools.
Track and analyze GPS data, provide reports and identify discrepancies in routes to supervisors.
Perform special projects such as bell time analysis, cost and time simulations and projections for redistricting.
Perform related work, serve as a substitute school bus driver as required or assigned by the Director of Transportation or designee.
