Join Our Team as a Food Service Worker at DSHS Yakima Valley School!
Are you passionate about food service and eager to make a difference in a dynamic environment? The Developmental Disabilities Administration (DDA) at DSHS is excited to offer a rewarding on-call opportunity for a Food Service Worker at Yakima Valley School in Selah, WA. In this role, you'll play a crucial part in our large-scale food service operation, from preparing and serving meals to ensuring a clean and efficient kitchen environment. As an on-call employee, your hours and days worked may vary based on facility needs. You may be expected to respond to emergencies or unexpected staffing shortages. Since Yakima Valley School is a 24/7 facility, shifts may also include weekends or holidays, depending on scheduling.
Evening and night shifts come with an additional shift differential on top of the standard compensation rate. In addition, employees who work on-site at this location for at least three days a week may be eligible for an extra 5% premium pay in addition to the advertised salary.

Some Of What You'll Do
- Transport food, supplies, and equipment between kitchens, dining areas, storerooms, and refrigerators.
- Assemble salads, sandwiches, and desserts according to established recipes and standards.
- Prepare and serve special modified diets in accordance with dietary requirements.
- Wash dishes, pots, pans, and utensils, ensuring cleanliness and hygiene.
- Clean kitchen areas by scrubbing surfaces, mopping floors, and emptying trash.
- Operate standard kitchen equipment, including coffee makers, toasters, mixers, and dishwashers.
- Knowledge of kitchen and dining room operations, personal hygiene, sanitation, and housekeeping practices, including the use of standard kitchen appliances and utensils.
- Ability to learn food preparation and serving routines, including therapeutic dietary orders, recipes, and menus.
- Follow instructions and directions given by supervisors and lead workers effectively.
- Professionals with a food handler's card or the ability to obtain one within one day of employment
