Job Description / Essential Elements:
Position Title: Supervisor—Operations Services
Directly Responsible To: Director of Maintenance, Operations, and Transportation
Supervises: Assigned classified, clerical, and custodial staff
Basic Function:
Under the supervision of the Director of Maintenance, Operations and Transportation schedule, manage, coordinate, organize, and direct the activities and operations of the custodial staff. Inspect and participate in the actives of the custodial crews, train and supervise the performance of assigned staff.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Organize and direct the activities and operations of the custodial cleaning teams.
- Drive a District vehicle to work sites to review and inspect work in progress and completed assignments to ensure compliance with applicable standards and safety regulations including modern cleaning methods, as well as pick up and deliver equipment and custodial supplies.
- Train and supervise the performance of custodial staff, including disciplinary action, transfers, reassignments, terminations and other personal actions as appropriate. Ensure substitute coverage as necessary for absences. Participate and conduct interviews for custodial staff.
- Perform multiple technical custodial duties with a need to periodically upgrade skills to meet changing environments. Research and test new custodial methods, supplies and equipment for the purpose of improving custodial services.
- Coordinates waste and sanitary disposal services for the purpose of meeting the needs of the district.
- Assist in the budget development process for the purpose of promoting efficient custodial practices.
- Manage hazardous waste removal for the district including but not limited to light tubes, science specimens, “sharps”, etc.
- Participate in the internal and third-party facilities use organization and coordination; includes the assignment of overtime associated with facilities use activities.
- Prepare and maintain records, files, logs and reports related to personnel, inventory, work requests, work performed, safety issues and other reports related to assigned activities.
- Perform regular (minimum quarterly) site inspections, emphasizing enforcement of cleanliness, health and safety, repairs and building modification at various sites.
- Attend and participate in a variety of meetings and conferences for the custodial department such as: bid meetings with outside contractors, vendors, manufacturers and suppliers; participate in the review of blueprints, plans and specification for construction projects.
- Confer with District personnel regarding custodial maintenance of buildings, projects and work order status; respond to inquiries and provide requested information with efficiency and courtesy; resolve complaints in a timely manner.
- Operate a variety of custodial tools, hand and power tools, battery, motorized and electrical powered custodial equipment including but not limited to auto scrubbers, extractors, wet vacuum, vacuums, and buffers.
- Respond to emergency and non-emergency calls as needed.
- Determine needed equipment, materials, supplies and tools for custodial maintenance, prepare requisitions according to established procedures for custodial supplies and equipment orders.
- Transport equipment and supplies needed for custodial maintenance cleaning.
- Identify and report site structure, grounds and custodial cleanliness needs; submit related work requests; provide systematic preventative maintenance at school sites.
- Instruct staff regarding safe work methods and procedures, assure compliance with Cal OSHA and applicable safe work practice standards; monitor OSHA regulations and standards and communicate updates to staff.
- Prepare and maintain records of staff vacation and time off schedules within the unit assigned to ensure proper reporting of time worked and absences.
- Operate a computer and assigned software programs; operate other office equipment as assigned.
- Responsible for maintaining consistent punctual and regular attendance.
- Perform related duties as assigned.

- Minor maintenance: including but not limited to alarm technology, flooring, window covering, signage, ADA compliance

Education and Experience Required:
- Bachelor’s Degree preferred but is not required.
- Supplemental college level course work in public administration, personnel management or a related field is desirable.
- Experience with school facilities is desired.
- Five years of increasingly responsible experience in custodial work including a minimum of 1 year serving in a lead or supervisory capacity.
- Bilingual, oral and written (Spanish) preferred but is not required.
Licenses and other requirements:
- Cal OSHA Hazwoper Certification
- Valid class C Driver’s License
- Maintain DMV record acceptable for coverage under District vehicle insurance
Working Conditions:
Environment: Field environment, work is mostly outdoors, sometimes in extreme weather conditions, driving a district or personal vehicle to conduct work. Office environment, on an occasional basis. This position regularly performs heavy physical labor requiring ability to lift, carry, push, pull and move heavy objects or materials. Emergency call-out during non-duty hours.
