Position Summary

The position of Engineering Research Center Administrative Director is responsible for overseeing the administrative and operational functions of the CURB Engineering Research Center at Washington University. CURB is a a new NSF Engineering Research Center (ERC), funded by the National Science Foundation NSF for up to 10 years, to create new industrial processes that use CO2 as input to create new product lines, from plastics to foodstuffs, reducing the impact of carbon outputs whilst also creating solutions for other large scale societal challenges such as food sustainability. CURB brings together a wide range of talent across science, engineering, social science, politics and business from four universities: Washington University in St Louis as the lead, Texas A&M, University of Delaware, and Prairie View A&M University. This role involves providing strategic leadership, managing Center operations and staff, coordinating research initiatives, fostering collaborations, and ensuring compliance with university and NSF policies. The position will report to the Center Director, and be a member of the Center Executive Leadership Council.

Job Description

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with faculty members and researchers to facilitate research activities and projects.
  • Manage project timelines: develop timelines and align across all projects, prioritization of activities, organize and participate in regular meetings with the company sponsors, consultants and other personnel involved with the projects to track status, ensure issues are addressed and resolved and ensure project goals are met. Track project metrics for evaluation, coordinating with the external evaluator on Center performance.
  • Ongoing development and implementation of the center's strategic plan in collaboration with Center Director and Center Executive Leadership Council.
  • Provide strategic leadership and administrative support to the Engineering Research Center. Oversee the operations of the center, including communication management, budget planning, monitoring, and evaluation. Serve as the point of contact with NSF, partner universities, and institutional officers.
  • Establish and maintain partnerships with industry, government agencies, and other research organizations.
  • Assist in proposal development and fundraising efforts to support the center's activities.
  • Oversee staff recruitment, performance evaluation, and professional development
  • Prepare regular reports and presentations for the Center Executive Leadership Council, Deans Council, and National Science Foundation.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Salary Range

$75,200.00 - $128,800.00 / Annually

The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
