The Director of Regional and Special Events will oversee the formulation and implementation of event strategy for all regional events. They will align event strategy with the overall goals, objectives and initiatives of Individual Giving, Special Events and University Ceremonies (SEUC), Principal Gifts (PrG) and the Eliot Society.This position will also focus on the creation, revitalization, collaboration and consistency of internal event protocols, processes and communications between key groups.
This position will require contact with the Executive Vice Chancellor and Sr. Vice Chancellor for University Advancement Programs, the Chancellor and other senior University officials. Additionally, this position will work closely with high-level volunteers and donors.
Job Description
Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
- Overall management of (8) Regional Event Staff with (4) direct reports.
- Oversee and assist in the strategy, planning, and execution of all regional and special events. Plan and execute all events and their logistics for targeted Tier 1 cities.
- Collaborate, formulate, and implement event strategy for regional events and activities for University Advancement departments, including RAP, ACE, and the Eliot Society. This will include continuous engagement and communications between all key departments to ensure holistic event goals and strategies are aligned.
- Protocol and process improvement and consistency in collaboration with the aforementioned departments.
- Overall event budget tracking and management for all regional events.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

- Supervisory and significant management experience in donor relations, major gifts, event management and project administration preferred.
- Ability to accurately apply professionalism and judgment skills in all situations, especially related to management, donor issues and budgets.
- Ability and flexibility to work outside of the normal workday/office hours including evenings and weekends.
- A strong desire to be a part of the Washington University community and champion the values of the institution.
- Certified Meeting Professional Designation or other industry certification preferred.
