SUMMARY DESCRIPTION
Under limited supervision, the Compensation Analyst is responsible for performing complex and high-level analytical work within Human Resources. This position will be integral to a comprehensive review and cleanup of compensation practices across the district, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and district regulations, while promoting consistency, equity, and transparency. The role requires developing and implementing strategic compensation frameworks that align with the district's goals, inform the collective bargaining process, and ensuring these frameworks support the district's mission to attract and retain top talent. This position collaborates with senior leadership and stakeholders to lead the district's compensation initiatives and drive improvements in classification and compensation practices. Performs related work as required.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Compensation Review :
Spearhead a district-wide audit of all compensation practices, identifying areas of inconsistency, non-compliance, and inequity. Develop and implement corrective actions to align practices with best-in-class compensation standards.
Collaborate with senior leadership to create compensation strategies that support the district's long-term goals to include helping design and implement a compensation philosophy that aligns with the organization's goals, culture, and employee value proposition.
Lead the administration of salary surveys, gather market compensation data, and provide leadership with detailed reports to ensure the district remains competitive.
Develop and recommend district-wide compensation policies and procedures that standardize compensation processes, ensuring consistency and fairness across all departments that support the organization's compensation plan, including transparency, new hire pay, pay equity, and pay increases.
Serve as a key advisor to executive leadership, department heads, and stakeholders on all compensation-related matters.
Manage and configure human resources software and databases to support the district's compensation strategies.
EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS
Education / Experience : Any combination of education and experience that would provide the required knowledge and skills is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and skills would be :
Knowledge of : Advanced principles and practices of human resources management, classification, and compensation. Compensation analysis methodologies, including job evaluation systems, pay equity, and market benchmarking. Federal, state, and district regulations related to compensation, labor laws, and collective bargaining. Data analysis, statistical methods, and HR systems management.
Skill at : Lead large-scale compensation and classification initiatives with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail. Provide strategic leadership in compensation policy development and implementation. Conduct complex data analysis and present findings in clear, concise reports and presentations. Use HR information systems and software to manage compensation data and enhance organizational efficiency. Communicate effectively with all levels of leadership and staff, demonstrating expertise in classification, compensation, and HR compliance matters. Exercise sound judgment and discretion in dealing with sensitive compensation data and information. Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a keen attention to detail.

Licenses / Certificates : Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid State of Nevada driver license with a driving record acceptable to the District; Advanced certifications such as Certified Compensation Professional (CCP) or Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) are highly desirable.

Salaries are subject to adjustment and may increase and decrease each fiscal year. New employees hired by Washoe County School District are normally placed on the entry step of the grade of the position. View the salary schedules here.
Additional Job Information
Please be advised health insurance premiums are paid by employees at a prorated percent for those working less than full time.
