SUMMARY DESCRIPTION
Under direction, coordinates and oversees all Housekeeping Department activities throughout the District; assists in the development and implementation of District-wide policies and procedures, provides technical assistance to and reviews work of subordinate Housekeeping employees. The incumbent performs related work as required.
EXEMPLARY DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES
Assists in the development and implementation of departmental policies and procedures; makes recommendations on procedural changes to improve efficiency of the Housekeeping Department; develops, administers and evaluates special programs; develops and implements Housekeeping Department work methods, procedures and maintenance schedules; and assist in site budget.
Interviews and evaluates prospective employees; assigns personnel to work locations and special assignments; makes recommendations concerning personnel activities such as hiring, promotion, disciplinary measures and dismissal; oversees and corrects work related problems; evaluates employee performance; mediates and resolves personnel and work related problems; handles grievances and appeal hearings; assists site Administrators with Housekeeping policy, procedures and Housekeeping employee issues; provides counseling and technical guidance to subordinates; and insures new and continuous training of Housekeeping personnel in departmental standards, safety and maintenance procedures, and improved techniques and materials; and maintains the administration of employee recognition and motivational programs to insure the continued positive growth of Housekeeping personnel.
Inspects interiors and exteriors of District facilities for cleanliness and proper maintenance; evaluates work requests and coordinates completion with custodial staff and other District personnel; insures completed work is following specifications, plans and codes; and performs minor maintenance duties on heating / air conditioning, plumbing and electrical equipment and systems.
Maintains administrative, operational and personnel records and reports; interprets District policies and procedures to staff, District personnel and the public; meets with vendors concerning custodial, grounds and maintenance supplies and equipment; performs tests and evaluates products for purchase by the District; develops specifications for bids on custodial, grounds and related maintenance items; processes supply requisitions, reconciles ordering discrepancies and maintains inventory of custodial supplies.
May be called on for off-hour school emergencies, such as burglaries, vandalism, fires, floods, power outages or equipment failures.
EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS
Education / Experience : Any combination equivalent to education and experience that could likely provide the required knowledge and skills is qualifying. A typical way to obtain knowledge and experience would be :
- Equivalent to a High School diploma;
- Five years of progressively responsible experience in Housekeeping Operations, of which two years included responsible supervisory experience.
Knowledge of : Electrical, heating and plumbing, and cleaning maintenance practices and techniques as applied to institutional settings; custodial equipment, tools and supplies and their safe handling and operations; supervisory, personnel and training procedures and techniques; supply, purchasing and budgeting techniques; computer skills in Microsoft products, Business plus and FacilityOne work order system; in addition, CPR and AED knowledge.
Skill at : Working independently; training, coordinating, supervising and evaluating personnel performing custodial duties; operating, maintaining and repairing all custodial equipment; understanding and carrying out oral and written instructions; interpreting and applying appropriate codes; making estimates of materials and labor costs; preparing and maintaining administrative, operational and personnel records and reports; communicating effectively orally and in writing; establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work; and interacting effectively with a wide variety of professional personnel and the general public.
Special Requirements : Applicants will be required to pass a physical and a full-mask or half-mask respirator fit test. Under this requirement the employee may not be able to have certain facial hair, like a beard, long sideburns, or mustache that may interfere with the passing of the fit test.
Licenses / Certificates : Possession of a valid Nevada State Operator's license with a driving record acceptable to the district. Lead and Asbestos District offered Certifications.
