Position Description:
The Case Manager/Student Advisor provides case management and advising services for students and potential students while specializing in at-risk outreach and student assessment including Carl Perkins CTE Special Population eligibility. This includes awarding grants and scholarships, educational planning, programming, maintaining connections with community resources, participating in retention activities for WCC students.

- Manage an active caseload of students by providing services that include: financial planning and resources, educational and life planning, and referral to appropriate College and community resources for assigned student caseload.
- Perform interviews to determine eligibility for grants, scholarships, other services and outreach with specialized services for At-Risk students
- Collect, create and maintain pertinent education, social and vocational documentation and maintaining updated case records documenting ongoing student progress/issues. Use various modes of communication for student interaction regarding academic status: degree and career requirements, course selection and class expectations in support of student goals and academic program requirements.
- Inform students of academic policies and procedures.
- Participate in the design and implementation of positive academic intervention strategies and programs to maximize student success.
- Work closely with division staff to keep current of course and program changes.
- Facilitate presentations for staff and departments on SRC services.
- Provide College admission information to potential students through various modes.
- Develop and maintain a cooperative relationship with other Student Services staff and the instructional faculty to facilitate information exchange.
- Develop and maintain a cooperative working relationship with colleges and universities, community agencies and interested groups.
- Responsible for implementing follow up and reporting activities.
- Refer students to Professional Counselors for career assessment, counseling, and other support services.
- Serve on College committees and assist in planning and implementing special projects that relate to student support programs.
- Design, implement and market special topic groups and programs that enhance student or participant’s progress and goal attainment. Work with CTE Advisor to enhance students’ awareness and participation in CTE program.
- Establish an annual plan to meet the requirement of the department’s annual plan.
- Monitor and track individual student cases and progress to ensure compliance with the eligibility requirements for the Carl Perkins Grant.
- Manage student crisis with regard to student barriers such as: housing, food insecurity, transportation and childcare.
- Provide timely and appropriate referrals to both internal and external support services.
- Participate in college sponsored events such as: Welcome Day, Wellness Day, In-Service and other programs.
- Review, support and assist students who are referred through Care Team, Student Emergency Fund (SEF) and other departments as needed.
- Participate and assist with SRC annual awareness programs such as: Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence Awareness, and Breast Cancer Awareness activities, etc.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Hours/Schedule:
This is a Classified Faculty position, scheduled to work 12 months per academic year, accountable for forty (40) hours per week, flexing day, nigh and weekend hours.

- Bachelor’s degree required in a relevant field.
- Equivalent of minimum of two (2) years of full-time work experience.
- Demonstrated successful case management, advising or other supportive experience at the college level.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule as needed to accommodate day, evening, weekend and distance/online students.
- Ability to use technology: Online tools such as email, on-line chat, and real-time on-line advising.
- Ability to work with a diverse student population and staff as a Student Services team member.
- Ability to demonstrate sound judgment, respond to unusual circumstances and appropriately handle confidential materials and matters.
- Strong interpersonal and writing skills to deal effectively with various college and the community.
