Position Summary:
Washtenaw Community College (WCC) is seeking a Part-Time Auto Body Repair Instructor to teach Auto Body Repair (ATT) credit courses, ensuring students gain the essential skills needed for careers in automotive collision repair, refinishing, and structural analysis. Instruction may take place in-person, online, hybrid, or lab-based settings, depending on program needs.
The instructor will play a critical role in fostering a safe and professional learning environment, ensuring students follow industry-standard safety protocols while using tools, equipment, and materials in all lab-based courses.
Additionally, instructors must conduct themselves in a professional manner at all times to serve as a positive role model for WCC students, demonstrating ethical behavior, workplace professionalism, and industry best practices.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:
The Part-Time Auto Body Repair Instructor will:
- Deliver engaging, high-quality instruction that aligns with course learning objectives and program goals.
- Actively and effectively promote safety in all lab classes, ensuring strict adherence to the department’s standardized safety protocols and procedures.
- Ensure proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and reinforce safety measures related to hazardous materials, tools, and equipment operation.
- Develop and maintain a learning environment that fosters student success, professionalism, and hands-on training.
- Utilize diverse teaching strategies (e.g., lecture, demonstration, online tools, and hands-on lab work) to accommodate various learning styles.
- Ensure curriculum compliance with industry certifications such as Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) and best practices in collision repair.
- Assess student performance effectively, utilizing a combination of written exams, skill assessments, project-based learning, and hands-on evaluations.
- Maintain accurate records of student progress, attendance, safety training completion, and grading, ensuring compliance with college policies.
- Collaborate with industry professionals and maintain partnerships with automotive repair and collision businesses to align coursework with workforce needs.
- Stay current in the field through professional development, industry training, and compliance with ASE certification standards.
- Participate in curriculum development and revision efforts to ensure course content remains relevant to industry standards.
- Engage in continuous improvement initiatives, including program assessments and participation in the Student Opinion Questionnaire (SOQ) process.
Minimum Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications (Required for HLC Compliance):
Candidates must meet at least one of the following sets of qualifications:
Option 1:
- Earned Bachelor’s degree or higher from a regionally-accredited institution in Occupational Studies (auto body repair concentration) or related field required.
- Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certifications B2-B5 required. Minimum 1 year full-time work experience required.
Option 2:
- Associate degree in Occupational Studies (auto body repair concentration) or related field may be considered with minimum 2 years full time work experience and ASE certifications as above.
Preferred Qualifications:
Additional Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in composite materials, including carbon fiber and fiberglass repair.
- Knowledge of light weighting techniques for auto body repair, including vacuum-bagging.
- Expertise in specialized auto body equipment related to lightweight materials and collision repair.
- Recent, successful experience in post-secondary education, particularly in Auto Body Repair courses.
- Online, hybrid, or remote teaching experience utilizing modern instructional technologies.
