Position Summary:
Washtenaw Community College (WCC) is seeking a Part-Time Electric Vehicle Instructor to teach (ATT) credit courses in EV technology, diagnostics, energy management, and safety procedures. Instruction may take place in-person, online, hybrid, or lab-based settings, depending on program needs.
The instructor will play a critical role in preparing students for careers in electric vehicle maintenance, repair, and testing by delivering industry-aligned instruction, ensuring compliance with high-voltage safety standards, and fostering a hands-on learning environment.
Additionally, the instructor must conduct themselves in a professional manner at all times, serving as a role model for WCC students by demonstrating ethical behavior, strong work ethic, and professionalism in all instructional settings.
The instructor will also actively and effectively promote safety in all lab-based courses, ensuring that students follow standardized department safety protocols and procedures while operating tools,
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:
The Part-Time Electric Vehicle (EV) Instructor will:
- Deliver engaging, high-quality instruction that aligns with course learning objectives and industry standards in EV repair, diagnostics, energy management, and drivelines.
- Actively and effectively promote safety in all lab-based courses, ensuring strict adherence to standardized safety protocols, including OSHA and SDS requirements.
- Ensure proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and reinforce safety measures for high-voltage EV components, energy storage systems, and vehicle diagnostics.
- Utilize diverse teaching strategies (e.g., lecture, demonstration, online tools, and hands-on lab work) to accommodate various learning styles.
- Assess student performance effectively, utilizing a combination of written exams, hands-on skill assessments, project-based learning, and system diagnostics.
- Maintain accurate records of student progress, attendance, safety training completion, and grading, ensuring compliance with college policies.
- Stay current in the field through professional development, industry training, and compliance with ASE certification standards.
- Collaborate with industry professionals to ensure coursework aligns with workforce needs and advances in EV technology.
- Participate in curriculum development and revision efforts to ensure course content remains relevant.
- Engage in continuous improvement initiatives, including program assessments and participation in the Student Opinion Questionnaire (SOQ) process.
Minimum Qualifications:
Minimum Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

- Bachelor’s degree or higher from a regionally accredited institution in Automotive Technology, Occupational Studies/Education, Technology Management (Automotive Emphasis), or a closely related field.
- ASE certifications required:
- A1-A8 – Automotive Repair & Service
- G1 – Auto Maintenance and Light Repair
- L3 – Light Duty Hybrid/Electric Vehicle Specialist
- Minimum of five (5) years of full-time, industry work experience in EV technology, automotive repair, or diagnostics.
Option 2
- Associate degree in Automotive Services Technology, Occupational Studies, or a related field from a regionally accredited institution.
- ASE certifications required (A1-A8, G1, L3).
- Minimum of seven (7) years of full-time, industry work experience in EV technology, automotive repair, or diagnostics.
Preferred Qualifications:
Additional Preferred Qualifications:
- ASE L4 – Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) Specialist Certification.
- Experience with EV diagnostics, battery management systems (BMS), and high-voltage vehicle safety.
- Recent, successful post-secondary teaching experience in Electric Vehicle courses.
- Online, hybrid, or remote teaching experience utilizing modern instructional technologies.
