Position Summary:
The Part-Time Electric Vehicle Laboratory Assistant supports Electric Vehicle (ATT) credit courses by providing hands-on assistance in instructional lab settings. This role is essential in facilitating student learning, maintaining laboratory safety, and ensuring an organized and efficient lab environment.
The Lab Assistant works under the supervision of faculty members to assist students with EV systems, high-voltage safety procedures, diagnostics, and coursework.
The part time electric vehicle lab assistant will play a critical role in fostering a safe and professional learning environment, ensuring students follow industry-standard safety protocols while using tools, equipment, and materials in all lab-based courses.
Additionally, lab assistants must conduct themselves in a professional manner at all times to serve as a positive role model for WCC students, demonstrating ethical behavior, workplace professionalism, and industry best practices.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:
The Part-Time Electric Vehicle Laboratory Assistant will:
- Support faculty instruction by assisting with lectures, demonstrations, and hands-on activities focused on EV technology, diagnostics, and safety procedures.
- Observe, coach, and assist students in completing lab exercises, assignments, and class projects related to EV systems and high-voltage vehicle maintenance.
- Ensure lab safety by enforcing OSHA, SDS, and high-voltage EV safety protocols, including proper use of PPE and hazardous materials handling.
- Provide technical support to students during lab sessions, troubleshooting EV system diagnostics, battery management systems (BMS), and high-voltage components.
- Prepare and maintain lab environments, including setup, breakdown, and organization of tools, equipment, and high-voltage safety stations.
- Assist with equipment maintenance and troubleshooting, ensuring that EV testing equipment, chargers, and diagnostic tools are in proper working condition.
- Monitor inventory and procure supplies, including high-voltage safety gear, diagnostic tools, and instructional materials using inventory management software.
- Assist in student recruitment efforts, including visiting high schools and participating in outreach programs with a focus on underrepresented student populations.
- Participate in college promotional events, skills competitions, and community engagement activities.
- Maintain an organized and professional work environment to support student learning and program success.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the department or supervising faculty.
Minimum Qualifications:
Minimum Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Associate degree in Automotive Services, Electrical Engineering Technology, or a closely related field, or equivalent education, training, and laboratory work expertise as determined by the college.
- Minimum of two (2) years full-time work experience in EV technology, automotive diagnostics, or electrical systems.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
Preferred Qualifications:
Additional Preferred Qualifications:
- ASE L3 – Light Duty Hybrid/Electric Vehicle Specialist Certification.
- ASE L4 – Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) Specialist Certification.
- Experience working in an educational laboratory setting, assisting with hands-on technical instruction.
- Knowledge of high-voltage EV systems, battery diagnostics, and charging infrastructure.
- Experience with diagnostic tools, scan tools, and inventory management software.
- Familiarity with OSHA, SDS, and high-voltage safety requirements.
- Experience in student recruitment, mentoring, or community outreach.
