Schedule
- Winter schedule: Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. with potential for overtime. May be required to work "double shifts for up to 16 hours in winter storm events.
- Summer schedule: Monday through Thursday, 6 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. with potential for overtime.
- Required to be on call 24 hours, 7 days/week due to weather conditions.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Performs scheduled maintenance, inspections, and repairs on heavy-duty vehicles and equipment, including trucks, loaders, graders, excavators to ensure optimal performance and longevity.
- Conducts repairs and overhauls on engines, transmissions, brakes, steering systems, and other components of heavy-duty equipment. Troubleshoot complex mechanical issues and implement solutions in a timely manner.
- Installs snowplow frames, sanders, underbody scrapers, wiring, lights and hydraulic systems on new equipment.
- Uses welding and cutting torches and brazing equipment to fabricate new or repair old snowplows, graders and other equipment.
- Utilizes diagnostic tools and techniques to identify mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues in heavy equipment. Diagnosis problems accurately and develop effective repair strategies to minimize downtime.
- Performs service calls in the field; returns vehicles to the garage for repair or otherwise assists malfunctioning equipment.
- Maintains accurate records of maintenance activities, repairs, inspections, and parts usage. Complete work orders, service reports, and documentation in a timely and thorough manner for compliance and historical reference.
- Operates equipment to diagnose problems/malfunctioning and/or after repairs to assure roadworthiness.
- Keeps tools, equipment, and work area clean, organized and in good working condition.
REQUIREMENTS
- Three (3) years in the repair and adjustment of equipment, preferably under the direct guidance of a skilled mechanic.
- A high school diploma or equivalent.
- A valid Michigan Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
- State of Michigan certifications in Engine Repair Diesel, Brakes & Braking Systems, Engine Repair Gasoline, Electrical Systems, Drive Train and Suspension & Steering Systems (Heavy Duty Truck).
- Ability to pass a pre-employment background check, drug screen, physical and Human Performance Evaluation (HPE). The HPE will require the applicant to demonstrate their ability to execute the essential physical demands of the position outlined in the job description.
