JOB SUMMARY
This position is responsible for developing and implementing constituent initiatives on behalf of the Board of Commissioners including constituent casework, scheduling, and daily activities with the goal of advancing the Board's priorities. This position will assist with district events, social media content, constituent casework, and administrative tasks on behalf of the Board of Commissioners. This position will serve with the Director of Board Operations as a point of contact for the Board of Commissioners. This position will report to the Chair of the Board of Commissioners and be supervised by the Director of Board Operations. This position will be a member of the Office of the County Administrator and participate in office projects supporting the priorities of the Board. As a member of County Administration, this position may also be asked to assist the County Administrative team.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
- Manages and coordinates calendars for the Board of Commissioners, organizing and scheduling meetings as requested.
- Develops and manages communication tools that keep the Board of Commissioners informed of the events, groups, and ongoing issues happening in their districts and across the county.
- Implements constituency outreach program for each Commissioner's district and ensures complete coverage of the districts in coordination with the Director of Board Operations.
- Coordinates district events such as town halls, coffee hours and office hours.
- Assists with managing content for social media and e-newsletters.
- Answers and responds to constituent calls, emails, mail, and other forms of constituent outreach. Responsible for the daily management of the customer service aspect of the Board of Commissioners, addressing and responding to constituents with appropriate information and in receiving access to services.
- Drafts and edits various correspondence, including constituent responses, proclamations, honorary resolutions, and any other official letters.
- Contacts and coordinates with departments to resolve constituent casework issues.
- Assists with major projects as determined by the Board of Commissioners, in coordination with County Administrator.
- Performs other duties as assigned

EMPLOYMENT QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to use basic computer applications, including Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work outside of normal work schedule, as necessary.
- Ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines that may be rigid or subject to change on short notice.
- Excellent organizational skills and ability to maintain strict attention to detail.
EDUCATION
Possession of a Bachelor's degree or equivalent with coursework in organizational development, business, public administration, communications, political science or related fields. A maximum of two years of college level education may be substituted with practical experience. For each year of college level education that is substituted, two years of practical experience shall be required.
EXPERIENCE
Two (2) years of experience in a public or nonprofit agency setting, specifically working with legislative and/or governmental processes or managing multi-stakeholder projects. Experience working in similar position for County or City Government or working with an elected local, state or federal legislator in a press secretary/communications position is highly desirable.
