What are the responsibilities and job description for the Accounting Clerk position at Waste Connections?
Alaska Waste has an opening for an Accounting Clerk to help us at our site in Anchorage, Ak.
TheAccounting Clerkwill assist the Controller and/or Assistant Controller in various accounting related tasks. Performs accounts receivable accounting functions such as cash posting, collections calls/emails, sending out invoices, and addressing customer invoicing concerns.
We are looking for experienced individuals.
The pay will be somewhere between $26-$29 per hour. And the schedule will be Monday to Friday in the Anchorage Office. 8am to 5pm with a 1-hour lunch every day.

Key Duties, Responsibilities, and Tasks:
- Communicate with controllers, billing manager, and office leads on a regular basis.
- Expert in RMO billing system.
- Assist Controller with regulatory filings.
- Run and file monthly or quarterly sales taxes.
- Learn rate structure for all 15 sites in Denali Division.
- Create custom billing reports for special contracts and broker accounts.
- Complex customer account audits.
- Collections phone calls, e-mail blasts, call blasts.
- Stop accounts that have been suspended for non-payment.
- Validate credit balances & request customer refund payments.
- Validate past due balances & write off accounts to collection agency.
- Assist with training & development of new customer service employees in RMO.
- Review and post deposit, charge/credit batches, review and post work orders.
- Run audit reports prior to monthly billing & make necessary account corrections.
- Cross train on all functions of the billing department including EFT deposits, cash deposits, cash reconciliation, electronic payment scrub files.
- Encourage increased inter-department communication at all sites.
- Support customer service call center as needed during high call volumes or when short staffed.
- Other duties & special projects as assigned by the Controller.
To be considered for this position you must have:
- Enjoys problem solving & walking customers through complex billing situations.
- Excellent customer service skills, 1 years of customer service experience.
- Demonstrated attention to detail.
- Cash/Check handling experience preferred.
- Excellent time management
- Self-driven
- Open to change and enjoys learning new skills.
- Enjoys creating and improving processes.
- Operate a 10-key adding machine by touch.
- Excel skills including, but not limited to:
- Capturing and recording important data.
- Using shortcuts and formula functions.
- Building charts and graphs.
- Sorting and filtering data.
- Utilizing pivot tables.
