Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Assistant Operations Manager to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will support the Operations Manager in overseeing daily operations, ensuring efficiency and productivity within the organization. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills, a proactive approach to problem-solving, and a commitment to fostering a positive work environment. As the Assistant Operations Manager, you'll be responsible for Developing, Coaching, Mentoring, and Performance Management of all Waste Pro Hawaii employees. The position manages a team of Driver Supervisors, Dispatchers, Drivers, Helpers, Yard Staff, Mechanics and Mechanic Helpers. The Assistant Operations Manager is also responsible for managing the collections activities for commercial, industrial and residential customers, as well as container delivery and pick up.
Duties
- Assist in managing daily operations and workflow to ensure optimal efficiency.
- Address operational issues promptly and effectively, ensuring minimal disruption.
- Manages a staff, including training, coaching and performance management.
- Holds routine driver and staff safety and operations meetings.
- Ensures route optimization.
- Implement and execute plans to maximize the customer experience and growth while optimizing profitability.
- Establish and maintain high appearance standards throughout all operations.
- Conducts accident and incident investigations.
- Practice progressive discipline with all employee performance issues.
- Ensure proper completion of paperwork for drivers including truck reports, driver logs and vehicle inspections daily.
- Conduct an annual review on each employee's job performance.
- Ensure maximum productivity and route management systems for commercial, roll-off and residential routes and establish productivity goals where needed; ensure adherence to operating standards; and manage labor hours and disposal expenses.
- Documents and maintains records required by regulatory agencies such as the Department of Transportation.
- Interact with customers and local, state and federal government employees to resolve customer service concerns.
- Oversee effective safety and accident prevention programs to ensure all reasonable action are taken to prevent accidents and injuries; ensure a safe and productive work environment for all employees; implement and maintain an effective loss control and safety program. Conducts Root Cause Investigations for all injuries and incidents, ensuring consistent discipline and retraining.
- Visits customers and customer sites to evaluate and resolve service and safety issues.
- Develop a best-in-class team and workplace culture and effectively manage performance and talent development.
- Build and maintain strong and effective relations with relevant trade and community organizations.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelors Degree preferred and/or five (5) years of relevant work experience.
- Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills
- Ability to meet tight deadlines and juggle multiple priorities
- Skills in MS Office and have the ability to learn our route management program.
- Demonstrated ability to lead change initiatives.
- Able to direct large staff.
- Demonstrated problem-solving, analytical, critical-thinking and decision-making skills.
- Is collaborative; builds and works with teams.
- Demonstrates and promotes ethical behavior.
- Has strong leadership skills and proven judgment of talent, with an emphasis on hiring and developing high performance teams.
- Available during all company working hours.
- Willingness and ability to work 50 hour weeks including nights and weekends.
