Job Summary:
The Wastewater District Office Bookkeeper is responsible for managing financial transactions, maintaining accurate accounting records, and ensuring compliance with financial policies and regulations. This position supports administrative operations by handling billing, and financial reporting for the wastewater district.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Management & Accounting:
- Maintain general ledger accounts and record all financial transactions.
- Process accounts payable (AP) and accounts receivable (AR), including vendor payments and customer billing.
- Reconcile bank statements, credit card statements, and other financial accounts.
- Prepare monthly and annual financial reports for management and board review.
- Prepare monthly board packets and vouchers.
- Attend monthly board meetings and send meeting minutes to the board and Kevin after.
Billing & Revenue Management:
- Generate and process wastewater service invoices for residential, commercial, and industrial customers.
- Track and follow up on outstanding balances to ensure timely collections.
- Maintain customer accounts and update billing information as needed.
Budgeting & Compliance:
- Assist in preparing annual budgets and financial forecasts.
- Ensure financial practices align with local, state, and federal regulations.
- Maintain organized financial records for audits and regulatory reporting.
Office Administration & Support:
- Answer customer inquiries related to billing and account balances.
- Assist with procurement, purchase orders, and vendor communications.
- Support administrative functions, such as filing, document preparation, and correspondence.
- Prepare documentation for permits
- Easement research
- Resolution writing
Qualifications
Education & Experience:
- Associate or bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field preferred.
- Minimum 2 years of bookkeeping or accounting experience (preferably in a municipal, utility, or wastewater district setting).
- Experience with government accounting practices is a plus.
Skills & Abilities:
- Proficiency in QuickBooks, Excel, and accounting software.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks.
- Knowledge of wastewater utility billing and regulatory compliance (preferred).
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Job Types: Full-time, Part-time
Pay: $25.00 - $32.00 per hour
Expected hours: 30 – 40 per week
